Will JB Weld work?

 Anytime I get a wide open straight road with no traffic or intersections I've been whining the Sumbich up for some speed runs. No problems for 19,023 miles, but on this particular stretch of road outside of Williams,CA something kicked up and knocked a small hole in my case. I'm thinking a bit of JB Weld oughta do the trick but figured I would ask here first. Whaddya think?

Duct tape and a piece of gutter tin should have you back on the road in no time...don't bother with that JB Weld crap.

I agree with the previous reply.  JB is great on some things, but not things that deal with fossil feuls.  I wouldn't bother with it.  I have tried to use it on carbs and the gas eats it right up.  Just my opinion....

heck ya it works i had a 93 beta synt they had plastic gas tanks anyways it mounted on the back by screws and had lossened up and wore a hole into the tank so i gobbered up the intire area sanded it back into shape and redrilled the hole ( good as new) and it isn't effected by gas and i was using 105 racing fuel mixed 70 to 1 but i don't know about that application seems the bonding would be in question you would really have to prep the area good.

I think he was going for a cheap way to get that ducati dry clutch noise...

EDIT: I was actually joking before...ive' used JB weld on stuff before with good results as far as a cob job goes...crank cases, fuel tanks...Seal All seems to work better on gas stuff though.

Very straigfoward fix.

Shove that connecting rod back in. 

Stiff some screening in the hole.

Apply the JB Weld, let it cure and sand.

Kawasaki had some nice running bikes with 3 cylinders.  ;D ;D ;D

   I was thinking of yanking the piston and rod through the hole. I've run on 3 for many a mile and may just use this for the commute. Will this affect my crankcase pressure? thinking of sticking a one-way valve in the center of the JB patch job ;D

I hate to get all technical and s**t at this point but the bond to the metal will be enhanced with a bath in MEK, acetone, or Lacquer thinner.  It isen't the JB I would worry about failing as much as the substrate bond. ::)  Paint the little dobble to match and rock on!

If ya coat that there JB Weld with Kreem tank sealer it will reattach a broken float support post that has been drilled and pinned also and save unstacking the rack.

Holy smokes! I'm going to have to fly my noob flag here. I mean, I've used JB on cracked alternator covers and the like but that was just a seam. This though...? You guys are joking here and I'm just not getting it right? Would JB actually be effective on that big a hole even with something like a mesh to let hold it's shape?

Yes, the picture shows a rod failure and the post is regarding a rock chip.  Unless I missed the boat also?  It has happened a time or two.

 Definite "tongue in cheek" first post gentlemen :)  I've seen pics of rods kicking holes in cases before but this is my first time having it happen to me. The amount of aluminum that was kicked out of both upper and lower cases was so "over the top" compared to what I had seen previously that I didn't bother to make it clear as to what had happened. It was a SPECTACULAR FAILURE!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
