If that's what you call a small hole....OH never mind, It's an American small hole ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Sam and Chris ;)

Well everything is bigger in America ..... isn't it Sam?  ;D

I've used JB weld on an oil tank hole in the past and it worked fantastically well. With your "small hole" though, might you be better using something like lumiweld?

The "something kicked up and knocked a small hole in my case" was my rod kicking over the crankshaft on its way to freedom from the confining cases ;) ;D

I'll bet you were screwing it's bollocks off, how many times do you have to be told....theres no power after 9,000 ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Sam.

Yeah well...ya have to check...might be hiding there.

"Yeah, but mine goes to 11"-Nigel Tufnel/Spinal Tap  ;D

Your right Kghost, always gotta check to make sure ;)       This was always intended to be the R/D stage in the life of the Sumbich. I can read, be told, a lot of things but it takes personal experience for me to truly understand what you all are talking about. How far can I push things before failure? Now I know ;) :D

The really lucky part was that my re-conditioned head for my Daily Rider arrived from Mike the day before this happened so a few days work will have me up and riding again. Daily Rider is my first 836 and a much nicer looking bike than the Sumbich so I will certainly be a bit easier on it :)

JB Weld is plugging up some serious holes in my gas tank. No problems yet. I also have a POR-15 kit in there though. It's good stuff, but I don't know about that hole.

What is all this talk about JB Weld. Why do you think God invented duck tape and coat hangers? That's what I use to hold my cylinder head on...

J B Weld will seal up the crack of dawn.

Without J B Weld, Bars leak, and butt splicers I'd be thumbing for rides.

Ouch!

Well, Sean it IS and air cooled motor.    Perhaps the extra ventilation hole will help in some way?   But, you might want to incorporate an engine breather filter.   ;D

One thing I learned about making hot rods way back, was that upping the power shortens the life.  And then, you get to start over.

What makes motors go fast is NOT cubic inches.  It's cubic money!

I wonder how McGyver would have got Sumbich back on the road?  Shouldn't have taken more than half an hour.  That would have left another half hour to save the world.

I was riding with a group on my way to Lake Almanor for the weekend when it happened Fred. We threw a rope around my bars(with a quick release in case of trouble) and my buddy pulled me behind his KTM back to Williams. The car carrying food and extra gear happened to be 1/2 hour behind us so I was able to leave the bike and hop in the car to continue my weekend getaway, sans bike. I know an independent tow operator and he drove up and got my bike the next morning and dropped it in my driveway so it was waiting for me when I returned. It cost me some dough but worth every penny for the peace of mind :) :)

Hey, nice job Sean, I had to laugh reading some of the early replies though, some of the guys here aren't used to your "subtle" attempt at humor, ha ha! I know you won't waste money on JB weld when you can pick up good used engine cases on EBay etc, but if they were "unobtainium", I'd have no problems using JB weld to repair them.

I did my F2 cases where the chain knocked out approx 8 square inches of multi-angled alloy casting just by using some plasticene (silly putty?) to mold the JB weld, and drilled and "helicoiled" one section of JB weld for the 6mm engine case thru-bolt, with no drama's either. As I said, no need, I imagine that's a "parts" engine now (or maybe a really cool trophy?) but certainly do-able. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Fortunately I've been tripping over a set of F2 cases for over a year now and have been on the verge of tossing them a few times. Good thing I love junk,eh ;) :D  I also have a complete K8 bottom in case I want a silver engine instead.

Since the cases blew apart at the seams do you think that I should bother trying to get perfect mating surfaces using JB Weld, or just one big patch and make it one big "uni-case" instead of two halves?

 ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D 8) 8) 8) 8) :o :o :o :o :o :o ;D ;D ;D :D :D :D ;) ;) ;) :) :) :) :) :) ;) ;) :D :D >:( ;D ;D ;D :D :) ;) ;) :D :D :( :) :-*

How about using the old cases to make a mold, then cast whole new cases out of JB Weld.  You could go into production.

As "subtle" as Greg's post was, Steve K0 and me were tossing around the idea of "sand casting" some er, "sandcast" cases.

I know a guy who has a friend who runs a foundry, who'll do "short run" sand cast projects, and Steve will (hopefully) get his sandcast cases soon, so we might be in business! ;D

I can jsut see it now. There will be a flood od counterfeit "sandcasts" hitting the market.

Those ought to work great with the JB Weld cylinder blocks I am tooling up for.  JB Weld cranks and cams are next.
