Replacing Obsolete Early Front Fork Bushings
« on: September 02, 2008, 03:01:51 PM »
My 750K2 had two cracked and worn upper front fork bushings (51451-319-000). I found one NOS :(
A little measuring and I find an off-the-shelf 1 3/8" ID x 2" OD x 3 L bronze bushing fills the bill.
The outside diameter must be turned down to fit the lower legs.
Depending on the shaft size (+/- .002"), the ID may require a light hone.
The OEM material is cast iron, I feel that bearing grade bronze may be better suited.

Consider me interested to see how it works out.

I'm not sure the bronze is hard enough though? Maybe it is, what do modern bikes use?

I got a set of forks from a breaker that were off a K0 and they had bronze bushings.
Nightmare to source these parts though so if you come up with a cheap option to source new ones I'm well interested in the how to...

Surely can make a set if I have the exact measures. Or send me one to look at.

Cheers, Rob
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

Had to polish out a couple thou from the ID to interface with my new "Forking By Frank" fork tubes. Standard "off the shelf" $12. bronze bushing (x2).

Nice and tight, no slop.
