metallic head gasket
« on: September 02, 2008, 12:23:56 PM »
Hello all.
I'm currently rebuilding my honda cb 125s engine, and, as I've read in some posts here and in the workshop manual, I was going to install the head gasket without threebond or any paste. But the gasket is not like other head gasket I've seen. This one is made of three metallic layers. The inner is thicker and the outer ones are thinner. Maybe the outer layers are made of a soft metal like some washer to get adapted to the surfaces.
The question is: do you know if with this kind of gasket I am forced to use paste or should I put it without any gasket paste? Thank you.

I've used that type of gasket on a 250 single four wheeler engine.

I didn't use any paste at all and no leaks.

They seem to be a far superior gasket to the paper type IMO. I once had to take the engine apart a little while after putting a new gasket on the top end (to fix shifter fork  >:() and the 'paint' covering on the metal gasket acts as sort of a paste anyway.

So just put er' on naked....... no goop required.

We use that kind of gasket in cars for several years now with no leaking problem.

Great to hear that. In fact, is my first rebuilt and I was afraid of not being good on applying the paste, so without it that will be easier. Thanks for your help.
