Where to buy exhaust? CB550
« on: September 04, 2008, 12:37:17 PM »
Hey guys! I'm sure you've been asked this question before, but I couldn't really turn up anything on the search here. I have a CB550 from 1976 and I'm thinking about getting new pipes for my project bike, as the ones mine came with are a bit rusty and are the chopperish turn out mufflers (4-2).  The style I've really fallen in love with are the 'peashooter' types like on BCR. I really don't feel like dishing out 900 dollars for exhaust though, (in college). The MAC systems seem to be the most affordable, but I'd rather spend my money on something I like aesthetically. My google searches haven't really turned up anything besides MAC's anyway. Do you guys know of any cheaper alternatives that are like the peashooters (4-2 preferably)? Thanks in advance. -Joe

I was exactly in the same boat you were in a couple of weeks ago.  I got pulled over by the cops here in Vancouver, BC for having a loud exhaust, so I had 30 days to get one.

Like you I really liked the sound of the BCR peashooter, although the the peashooters, in my opinion, have a very "weak" look to it.  Also, there's no way in hell I'm gonna pay that kind of $$$ for them.

I had a hard time trying to find a 4-2 so I narrowed my decision to either the Marshal Deeptone 4-1 and the Mac 4-1.  Because of price ($340 here in town) I decided to go with the chrome 4-1 full exhaust.  They look great, but I'm not completely happy with the way it sounds.  There's a rattle at about 5000 rpm, and the sound is not as deep as I hoped for.  Here's a video link

Good luck and post some pictures when your upgrade is complete.
