Your opinion: what's a rebuilt CB750K3 worth?
« on: September 04, 2008, 05:50:07 AM »
As the first Hondaman Special approaches completion (4 months late, due to weather and financial conditions  >:(  ), I haven't heard from the guy who wanted to buy it in quite a while. We had set a pretty firm price, but I exceeded in my budget, so that's OK with me for now.

So, as I get ready to repaint it in Candy Gold this weekend, let me know what you think an overhauled CB750K3 might be worth where you live. It's essentially stock, but with anything worn out, renewed, and if I have time before I put the head back on, may port it, too. New Continental tires, Beautiful, young wheels, new brakes, master cylinder, rings (stock bore), valves freshened with new seats, young primary and cam chains, new tensioner parts for the cam chain. If it needs a new clutch, it will get it, too. New Diamond Powersports drive chain (best there is...), Honda sprockets, young shocks, young pipes (all 4, stock), new paint everywhere. Young instruments, new cables, tapered roller steering head bearings, rebuilt swingarm with Oilite bronze, custom-fitted bushings (my Lifetime Warranty rebuild there), Hondaman Ignition, new filters, oil, plugs. Refurbished wiring harness, with new connectors where needed, and with extra wires run to improve the "backbone" of the system. Good handlebar switches, new chrome bolts everywhere that they were rusted.

Thanks for your opinion! This is #1 of probably 3 I'm working on...

I would go for 4-5k.... or 6 and let them knock it down to 5500 so they think they are getting a deal, either way it is easily worth 5k

I don't think I could afford to sell it for a new one's price: they were $1695 plus tax back then.  :o

What cost $1695 in 1972 would cost $8314.43 in 2007.
Inflation adjusted dollars.

Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2007 and 1972,
they would cost you $1695 and $343.87 respectively.

I swear I loose posts I have posted here sometimes....

but anyways, I agree with the 5 grand range.

I've seen(in utah) non running stockers, nothing new, go for 2500.
1800  ones sold in 2-3 days.

Running rat 750 go for upwards of 3500, and NICELY restored 750's go for almost 6 grand.

The best deal I have ever seen(although he had troubles getting a title) was a '78 750 motor with LOTS or '70 hop-ups in a (modified)harley chopper frame for 5800(5300?)...
GORGEOUS frame hand airbrushed with skulls demons and such fender to fender, raked front end... bike must be 8 foot long.
Handled like a dead horse though....
Has "hidden" rear suspension and a 200(at least) rear tire.

Assuming it had a 4-4 exhaust.

I would take a guess at mid/high 4k around Az. At least judging from what I have seen them go for and with the right buyer definitely higher than that! I think there are a lot of places where you would get more than in Arizona.
   This pretty much sums it up.   76' CB592 cafe. 69 750 project, 03 CBR954, 75 750 super sport.

If you sold it to me, Mark, I swear that decrepit old motorcycle couldn't be worth more than $200, tops. But for anyone else in Central Texas, a restored K3 with a good title can easily go for $5,000, perhaps a more if one of the high-tech gazillionaires or local movie stars take an interest. I've seen much worse bikes attract really high prices lately. One guy put a reasonably restored K6 on Craigslist at $6,500 and it was gone within a week or so. I don't know if he got it, sold for less, or just pulled his ad, but there it is.

Don't sell your work short.

BTW, when do we see pictures?

If your guy completely flakes on you, then let me know. I might be interested.
I'm lacking the patience and skills it takes to figure out what's going on w/ my K3. Maybe I'll trade up to one that has been fixed right

ESPECIALLY if it has stock pipes!! ;) ;) (man I wish I had stock pipes)

I just love the concept here and I have to agree with these guys saying 5K but if I'm the buyer...   ;)

I think it would be extremely difficult to get a better SOHC4.  I'm not about having a show bike or everything being perfect in terms of "year correct" or perfectly stock.  By my way of thinking, you (HondaMan) have made my dream bike.  I'll be first in line for the book (and maybe I'll be bidding on the bike ;)).
