Some of the boys have picked up CB650 cams off e-bay and thrown those at em for an inexpensive bump.

sorry but hp and cheap NEVER fit in the same sentence
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I hear Megacycle makes a nice cam for the 550 but doing a nice hand port and polish of the intake and exhaust ports is always going to be the best bang for your buck. Some people stray away from doing something like that themselves, but in reality, it's pretty hard to #$%* it up. Also, a good tune up (i.e. spark plugs, wires, points, condensor, valve adjustment, oil change, tire pressure) can really improve a hard ridden bikes performance. Hope that helps.

+1

there IS low budget, like the 650 cam, or a new exhaust, or pods but if you want real numbers you gotta send real money
