That settles it Mike, I'm going to sell my 3 sidecovers for my 78 750F on ebay to fund a port and polish!

Old evil bay trick; you get 6-7 buddies to bid (bidding buddies??) to drive the price up, then wait for the poor sap that really really needs one of those.

I'd rather have an LPM repro. Better quality than OEM, and paint it any color you like! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

The 400f I just picked up for $150. came with a real nice sidecover, maybe with some help I could auction it off and recoup the cost.  ::) ::), I wouldn't be surprised if people are jacking the price up, why not get a reproduction and a new decal for half the cost. Seems the overpriced TV chopper stupidity is affecting even us fine vintage Honda folk

I clicked on the bid history, http://offer.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=220276319305 and it looks like one guy bid 6 times, and 5 of them in a row?  Sounds fishy to me.

Nah, that's just how EBay bidding works. If the current price is 50.00, and you bid 100.00 it might go to 51.00 (depending on the minimum bid increment), then someone comes along and bids 55.00 but you're still the high bidder with your initial 100.00 bid, so it automatically bids 56.00 for you, and so on and so forth. I love a conspiracy mate, but this aint one. Cheers, Terry. ;D

The prices on these side covers fluctuate like crazy.  When I was looking for one to replace the perfect one that disappeared off my 77 750k , I spent months looking at them on ebay.  I saw nice ones go from $35 - $120 over that time before a found a nice one for $55 that matched perfectly.  What it boils down to is how many people are looking to buy a sidecover that week and how bad they want it.  I probably would have paid upwards to $80 for my cover, but thankfully now one out there wanted to spend more than $54 on it.

That's it mate, I bought a beautiful gold K1 tank a few years ago, no dents, original (but faded) paint, etc etc, for 19 bucks! I still don't know how every one else missed it, and the seller was absolutely spewing that no-one else bid, but I guess it was one of those freaky moments in time when no-one actually needed a mint gold K1 tank? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry knows about disappearing side covers. Abducted by aliens while he was riding the bike (they left Terry and took the side cover). I believe they listed it on Intergalactic ebay. ;) ;D

Not everybody understands how ebay works..

I am less leery of  shilling if it was offered with a BIN..

I will say I (and many others)have bid multiple times w/o large increase, to make it appear as though there is a very high bid on it.

It is not a matter of can be set up for BIN to disappear after a bid.. it will.... many times I would bid to make it disappear, usually one the very few times (but not only)I would bid early..

Maybe some dont know, this but auctions can be ended to sell to current bidder... not sure today but it was for quite some time.. I believe the reasoning was this.. that the auction could be pulled anyway for an off ebay sale.. BUT.. the advantage to that rule was that ebay got some FVF as opposed to none.. PLUS.. there was some degree of buyer/seller/feedback protection..in short a win/win scenario..

I've never purchased from ebay so I have no idea how it works.  I stick with craigslist and/or paying full price from where ever seems quickest.  :P

But thanks Terry and 754 for the insight!  I really should figure ebay out some day. . . ::)

No worries mate, but don't be frightened of EBay, there are always crooks trying to rip you off (at your dealer or on Craigslist too) but really, it's a wonderful resource, I've bought and sold over 600 items (mostly bought) and have had only one or two bad experiences.

I just bought some OEM BMW heated handle-grips for my BMW K1100LT for 80 bucks on EBay, they arrived last week in perfect condition, airmail was only 20 bucks, so I've saved a whopping 300 bucks off retail! Cheers, Terry. ;D
