rode a zx14 today, nearly had to change my drawers when i got home

i cant imagine anyone but maybe a pro racer being able to use even half of what one of these monsters can do. i've been riding since the early 90's and i think i'm pretty experienced for a rider, but that thing scared the living HELL out of me. went nearly 100 in 1st gear and ran it hard through 3rd. i cant begin to imagine what this monster would be like full out in 6th. riding through the twisties was a ball as long as i kept my hand off the damn throttle as much as possible. basically what i'm wondering is WHY are bikes like this being built when 99% of the riders out there likely couldnt get everything a modern 600 could do let alone 1400 cc's and god knows how much horsepower?

You know, yesterday I was doing cornerwork at a local track and had a conversation with a young woman who was currently on a gsxr 1000.  She said she traded up from an R6.  Well she wants to go back to a 600, or a cruiser.  Basically our conversation was, no one on the street needs anything larger than a 600 sportbike, for the street.  Love the 'Busa, will Not be buying one.  If i ever by another sportbike, it will only be about a 600.  Even the guys at the shop, whoare wayyy more experienced than I am, and have raced, don't ride larger than R6.

To each his own, though
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should;)

the hyabusa and the zx14 are all about straight line speed. I ride with guys on both the busa has nothing for the 14 up on top.

I have a hopped up 1989 zx10 I can hang with them till about 140 then it's over. you are right about a smaller bike on the twisties but I would give up my liter bike for one because of the down side, riding on the highway and riding with a passenger.

when I was a younger i had this notion where a motorcycle needed to scare me before any satisfaction/fun was derived from it.

Now, not so much.

i completely agree! the bmw k1200 r that is pushing 163bhp doesnt scare the living crap out of my like that damn kawi. i DO have a healthy respect for it but it's just so refined, unlike the violent feeling zx14.

Yeah, that ugly Beemer is on my short list of bikes I want.

I don't know. I took out the Concord 1400 and I really liked that bike, too (also on the short list). My 750 Ducati can still take on the toughest in the twisties, though.  :)
