How often do you sync carbs

Hey guys.  Over the summer I totally rebuilt my carbs.  I also sync'ed them and everything ran well and smoothly.  I have since put about 1000 miles on the bike and since the weather has started to get colder here in Michigan, the bike is harder to start, idles roughly and the engine is slow to return to idle or doesn't return at all.

Any ideas?

Harder to start could just be the colder weather. If the bike doesnt smooth out as it warms up, maybe the carbs are out of whack or possibly your points. I would check your timing first then, your carbs.

CHECK the sync at every tuneup.  SET the sync whenever it needs it.

Whenever an SOHC4 gradually runs poorer, the first place to start is a complete tune-up.
Air filters clog
Spark plug soot up
Points become crusty
Etc Etc.

If a tune-up doesn't restore vigor, at least check the carb sync.

Sounds like a vacuum leak.  Check the clamps, and the tubes for leaks or cracks.

Sounds like a vacuum leak.  Check the clamps, and the tubes for leaks or cracks.


I second that. Also might be a plugged pilot jet.
