Finally, here she is....
« on: September 13, 2005, 06:19:52 PM »
Just got the first roll developed.  Here's the girl in the sun.  I've tossed the suicide shifter for standard forward controls since the pic, but kept the gear in case I get crazy one weekend.

...just kidding. I'm a little frustrated; you got any shots with a little more detail. Like what is a suicide shift on a Honda mean. I know what it is on a Harley, but a Honda?

She started as a 78 750K but had a different spirit that took me the last 11 months to find.  The suicide shifter was one of those "bad idea jeans" things.  The first time I tried to take her around the yard I figured I would not want to have her in traffic like that.  I attached the big pic for U.E. to take a look at what that crazy thing looks like on a Honda.  Just don't zoom in on the welds :)

Nice. Is the frame yours from the ground up? Did you brake-torque the drive chain out of existence?

I'm 5'4" so I like the low inseam.  As for the chain, it was making all this racket so I figured I go without it  ::)  The pic was actually taken prior to me having it on the road.  Notice the lack of tail light and doesn't the kickstand look a bit odd?  Had to cut that one and make an extended one so it would actually fold up past the pipe.  So far the welds are holding up with about 200miles on her and several pot holes.  My back is another issue..

OK... First, a little history lesson, if you don't mind; that's called a "jockey shift".   A jockey shift goes directly to the gearbox, as opposed to tank shifters with linkage. The "suicide" is descriptive of a certain clutch arrangement on jockey-shift Harleys whereby the clutch pedal was springloaded like on a car. You had to keep your foot on the clutch while stopped. If you or passenger shifted and you had to put your foot down suddenly...  Stock Harleys and Indians had a pressure plate that held the clutch in place so you could put your foot down while waiting.

Now- as pictured, where is/was your clutch (assuming you are/were using one?!)?

Ahh.  The clutch as pictured is that handle on the jockey shifter.  That's why I was calling it a suicide.  Even if it technically isn't one, it still felt like that would be the end result...

Looking good! Though myself I'd have another head light setup.. ;D

Do you have any picture directly from the side. Would be nice to see shape of everything, trail, rake etc.

Duster, I think she's about ready for a little longer ride than my <30 mile adventures so far, but not absolutely sure.  There is some great riding in this area when ever you feel like making it.  I'll light up the grill and ice down the beer afterward.  Maybe we see how many SOHC folks would like to take a trip to the Charlottesville, VA area and make an event out of it.  I've got extra beds and tons of floor space......

Let me know when you'd be ready and I'll set something up in the events section to see if anyone else would be interested.

That looks like a decent frame there Digga, Is it a factory built chopper frame? I'd be more reluctant to show pics of that lounge chair sitting on your super sport! Ha ha, Cheers, Terry.
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
