New Canadain
« on: November 11, 2007, 07:01:32 AM »
 :o

Hello everyone. I just got my first project bike. It is a 1975 CB550F. I unloaded it in the dark last night and am already thinking " what have i got myself into " Im not sure where to start work. It is a complete rolling bike but it is not running and the carbs are off of it. I want to completely redo this bike and am thinking of striping it and starting by repainting the frame and working from there. Any advise ?

A bit about me

I am married and live in Cambridge Ontario. I ride a Husqvarna  TE 450 and my wife rides a Kawasaki KDX250. A few members in a Ontario based dual sport club have bought older Honda's to work on and start a Vintage branch of our club.

Occasional frustration, fun and a good deal of satisfaction. A good set of before and after pics helps in the satisfaction dept. ;) Good luck, post pics and keep us updated.

Welcome from rain soaked Indiana.

Get factory shop manuals, take a good series of before pictures, and start taking it apart. When I started reviving my 78 750K8 it was the first bike since 1967. Being my first attempt I had no clue, but I just labeled things as I took them off, have a good friend who has a K7 and has helped me a lot. CycleRecycle is here in Indy and has been good for advise and some parts. The guys on this forum have mountains of knowledge. Don't be afraid to ask. Check out the tech section for FAQ's.

Welcome Randy, from up north in Timmins. Here's a link to a good parts resource.               http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb550-four_model14345/      Its amazing how many parts are still available through your local dealer. Like Matt, I also have an old Husky I have restored, a 76 cr250.  See the gallery under J Lamminen.   John.

Two days after i got my CB450 a guy calls me up and say's he heard i was looking for a old bike to work on. I told him i got a bike but he tells me he has had his buddies bike at his house for two years and wants it gone. To make a long story short I go and look at what he has as he is only 15 min from my house. I made a low offer on the bike so he calls his buddy to ask him & his buddies wife tells him just to get ride of the bike. Now a have a great running 1983 750 Honda Nighthawk that needs front brakes , fork seals & a rear tire for a safety check. I may repaint the tired looking paint too.

Now i have to decide which bike to work on or even if i should keep both. I must admit there is something cool about the 1975 CB550F. I will post a few photos soon.

Well it's been a long time since i posted.

I have the room this winter to work on my bike. I started to look for a few parts to work on my 1975 550F. What i found was a 1976 550F certified for less then half the parts i need for the bike i have. Well now i have 2 550 Super Sport's. I just had my 76 out for its first ride by me and i love this bike. Now i have to decide where to start. I know what i want as a end product. My wife has informed me one will have to be built for her when im done mine.

Time to start work.
