Gather around kids for a story........
Every year there is an 'automotive flea market' up here in Southern Ontario (
http://www.burlscreek.com/content.xjp?id=48) that my family attends religiously. The event is twice a year and although it is mostly car parts, there is a lot of other items like....well, motorcycles.
Went there the first day and picked up a backrest, some snowmobile parts and cookie jar, all for $20. The snowmobile parts would have cost me $100 new so I was happy.
I saw more bikes, scooters and we Honda's than I can count on my hands and toes. I came across a 77 CB400F, complete but in need of restoration. The guy wanted $350 which I thought wasn't bad........but having just finished college and jobless, I passed.
Later on I saw a jewel. A 1977 CB750F..........Mint, original and only 14,000 miles. The bike had all the signs of being a well looked after gem. The owner was asking $1,500 but said he would take $1,200 since he already had a few offers of that price, but no one could come up with the cash.
Anyway, I went home with my bag full of parts and a cookie jar and though nothing more of it.
The next day, I had a 'charter flight' with a friend which got rained out, but since the airport is right next to the flea market, I decided why not go back........My dad who just loves this event was there and called him and said I would meet up with him.
Well, was I shocked when I met up with dear ol' dad to find out that he had bought this 77 750F earlier that morning.
NOW, Dad has never ridden a bike and doesn't really intend to. But dad knows a good deal/bike/car/truck/tractor/etc. when he see's one.
He said that he had seen the bike earlier in the weekend and thought it was a good deal having seen many other bikes at higher prices throught the grounds. He happened to chat up the owner on this rainy sunday and the owner said that despite all the offers, no one presented any cash to close the deal...........And at that moment, for some strange reason, dad presented the money and bought the bike.
Here are a few pics of the bike.

Now I've got the bike running........took a while to get the pilot jets clear and the accel. pump working but I runs great!
The new tires were never run on and the front one is lumpy as heck. I'm going to have to break it down again and reseat the bead.
I'm not sure If I will end up owning the bike or not. I've offered to pay my father what he paid for it when I get the cash.....but for now I'll settle to be Chief in charge of Maintenance for er'
Oh yeah, the only part missing on the bike is the rear caliper and master cylinder...... I scoped one on evilbay which I might scoop up.......unless anyone else has one to get rid off.
Matt.
