racing stripes - paint or decal?
« on: September 14, 2008, 12:35:49 PM »
after i get my paint on, i want to do some basic racing stripes to accent the bike. do most folks here paint them on, or use vinyl decals? any advantages/disadvantages either way?

if the answer is painting, any particular method of laying down tape so it's nice and even/straight?

I prefer decals.  Good quality striping tape of different sizes and colors can be found at a professional auto paint store.  You can also go to a vinyl sign maker and have them do strips of vinyl in different colors and lengths.

If you change your mind later on you can carefully pull them off

Depends on the look I want.  I usually paint and use 3M fine line striping tape for my layout.  I buy the green 1/8 wide for most work.  I then sand all the colrs and base with 600 wet dry and clear coat over.  Decals are available for stock schemes from cbdecals.com and they can be clear coated also.  I custom paint 10-15 bikes a year.  Check my website for samples.

Give these guys a look. I haven't done business with them- yet, but you can upload images to turn into decals.
