Arse on Fire
« on: September 15, 2008, 12:49:55 AM »
I used to have a kill/security switch mounted underneath the rear wheel arch that killed the power leaving the battery to the coils.
worked great but unfortunatly I broke the switch off going over a speed bump. So I fitted another a few days ago.

Went for a short ride,  when all of a sudden I lost power and saw smoke...the bike died and I was pulled over at the side of the road
working out where the smoke was coming from - when my arse started to get hot - it was then I noticed my bike was on fire
underneath the wheel arch - the switch wiring had melted.

I am not sure whether it was the switch or the actual wire that caused this.. I assume the switch even though the wire
had completly melted - it was the same wire that was on there hooked up to the old switch and working fine..
either way can someone tell what rating of switch and wire I need for the job incase I combust again.

Is that kill switch switching positive to the coils, or negative from the points?

The best practice is to switch negative. So, if there is a short with the bike frame, nothing happens -it either connects ground to ground, or coil to ground -as normal-.
