Hi y'all old but new member really.  Had to create new account to get back in.

NEway, I got the ole lady a k5 today and I want to replace the wheels and rubber.  I like the fat look and wanting to know what I will need.

I have had two harley dealers relace a a pair of old '73's I had long ago with 16" rims but paid no attention to the work or details.  Now that I want to know and to this to the ole lady's ride, what do I need to know and what do I need to do?

I have seen a couple rides here where the front tire looks fat and I like that look.  What do I need to do with the front wheel to get it?  Also, I was thinking of removing the stock front fender and using carpy's fiberglass one instead.  I would like it to fit. 

The ole lady wont be racing it, going for what I think is a kewl look and hopefully lowering the bike a bit.

A 16 inch rim can be laced to a Honda hub to lower the rear and to provide for some wider tires.  A set of shorty shocks can be installed easily.  Watch the brake stay bar, actuator rod, and swing arm, in that order, for tire clearance.  A 130mm is as wide as you can go stock if I recall.  For the front, cut 2 inches off the springs inside the fork tubes and run a 110mm tire for the Zero Engineeering look.  Trim the seat pad thinner and put a dip in the driver area for a Corbin look and get a local upholsterer to fancy up the vinyl for you.  I figure it is a nice Christmas present for "the ole lady" Visit my website for ideas......

So, I can drop the front just with shorter springs in the forks?  I do not have to worry about the tubes?

What is a reputable place to order the shorter rear shocks?  I think they are 11" versus what ever is on there now, prolly stock.

No tube mods needed, just don't get carried away as it is easy to "slam" one right down on the front tire.  If you are running a front fender, you can't go as low.
