The seller lists the one set as being for K1 through K6 models and it has the indentation for the side emblem. But if I am not mistaken (which is very likely), isn't that indentation only really correct for the K1 and K2 models? Later didn't the K3 through K6 side emblems change shape to include a square around them?

Here is cover he is advertising for K1 through K6 CB750's

Now it looks as if these K1 and K2 emblems would fit:

But not these K3 to K6 emblems:

Good chance I will order these as I have a K1 and they look correct, but those restoring K3 through K6's may wish to ask for a correct replica. Unless of course I am wrong. I am new to these CB's so that is very possible.

I'm getting all cranked about these covers from over the pond, but alas, no - wrong ones!?  I think this may have been answered already but I was too dense to understand.  The K1-K6 sidecovers are for all practical purposes exactly the same.  Mine (with one slight imperfection ;)) is pictured below.  You can see that it looks like the one in the picture above.  hmmmm  Mine is a '76 cover.  It has indentations that look like they'd fit a '71 or '72 emblem.  The newer emblem covers over the indentation "flush"... note the wax/crud outline of the larger/newer "750Four" emblem (which I'm convinced was the way this unit came from the factory).

Gamma beat me to it but Ill agree with him. The later covers for the K3-K6 were the same covers as for the K1/K2 - only the badge changed! Look at any K3-K6 sidecover (as Gamma posted) and you`ll see the indentations are the same as the K1/K2 covers. Honda never bothered making a sidecover with K3-K6 badge indentations.

Oh and Ive been using LPM sidecovers since 2003 (obtained from DSS at the time). Much better than the originals as they are stronger.

cheers
Andy

The K3 through K6 had larger indentations on the side covers, because the "750 Four" logo got bigger and more scripty-looking. Later, I'll try to find some pix of this, gotta go to work now. But...all the K1-K6 covers fit each other's spots on the frames, because the attachment points never changed. This, of course, just adds to the confusion...

I REALLY like the air-induction look your side cover has. I'll bet it helps keep that rectifier nice and cool!  ;D

I can't claim credit for that "vent".  I'm considering the same modification on the LPM versions. ;)

Sorry Mark but I have to disagree about the K3-K6 sidecovers being different. My K4 covers were the same underneath as my K2 ones  ;) And this parts diagram for the K6 shows the same K2 sidecover indentation with the later badge being put on top...there was no larger indentation.

Well, looks like those that say the covers are the same may be right. I went to ebay and looked at several listing both current and past and the ones that show both back and front views all show the same. The only difference appears to be which emblem is attached. The indentations are the same. Crap! I have passed on several later 70's covers as I thought they were different. Here is an example...

Those covers look nice but over 50 each unpainted? I don't know. I suppose most of it is cause the US dollar sucks right now. I must say, I prefer screw on covers as I think they are much easier to get on an especially off. The cover I used to have before they got beat into pieces by hail, were damn near impossible to get off.

Maybe someday I will get a set of these and modify them to screw on.

I suppose it is good news though for the purists! ;)

Boys,

All I gotta say is - buy a new set of rubber side cover grommets or whatever you call them whether or not you buy new side covers but especially if you buy new side covers. Keep them slightly lubed and use support in the proper places when you remove them.

Eldie,

$50 is cheap dood especially when some of us have the Unobtainium Brand. Hell, why even have side covers  ;) , they'll only break when you abuse them.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I ordered a set for my K1 and they arrived today. Yes sir... these are nice! As previously mentioned... they are thicker and seem more flexible. They have the correct style push tabs and not a screw on cover.

actually i've never glassed b4 so i just bought a kit and some 80grit from kragen about $15 and i figured it cracked in another spot i would have extra :) and i also spent about $2 at the dollar store for a cheepo paint brush for putting on the resign and a plate for mixxing :) other than that it was alll good a good learning expereance... just a note if you buy most kits they come with a loose fiberglass sheet if you pay the extra $5 you can get the woven cloth its MUCh easyier to cut and apply in layers than the "hair" like stuff they give you in the box... and you will have TONS extra left over!

Max,

I am in the same boat as you.  They may be, but I prefer the look of the F cover on the F bikes.  Anyone know how to contact LMP?

Are F and K sidecovers different?
Yes.
Depends on the year model.  IF the K covers are from or for a 77-78 550K then yes, they'll go an F model CB550.  Side covers from 71-76 CB500/550Ks have a different post orientation.

(I feel like I've answered this question a hundred times.  I even posted pictures if I recall.  I'm beginning to feel that educating the forum membership is a fruitless endeavor.)

Sorry to bother you TT. I didn't find the answer in a search. Its all in how you format the search I guess.
Thanks for the reply though! Good info for me-my bike won't look like a SS when I'm done anyhow.

Hi

I sent LPM an email and asked if they might start making the covers for the 550F model. I'll post the answer. Do you know of other manufactures that makes good, and not too expansive, side panels for the 550F?

Hi again

LPM has now answered, and wrote that "If we can get a good set to copy then yes we could make them". I think a lot of us could be interested in this company to start making those covers for the F-model. Therefore i am very interested in where I could get a very good set of the side covers for the F-model, that LPM could use as the model?
