what a fiche?
« on: September 14, 2008, 01:41:40 PM »
Recently in the never ending search for parts I found this cool Honda service site

http://www.servicehonda.com/test/index.htm

It says right on the first page:
"This new system allows you to look up EVERY part number for EVERY Honda motorcycle, ATV or Scooter ever sold in the United States"

the only thing is you have to log into there server site using remote desktop, but they have the instructions right there and its easy. Once you get in it has a part number search or if you minimize that theres a "fiche finder" that has you pick the model and year of your bike. After which you can look at an exploded view or "microfiche" of each section of the bike with parts numbers listed to the side. Looks like you can order the parts here too.

It's an old guy high tech device. What the hell is an IPhone/IPod, etc  :D

I laughed when I took my Honda parts microfiche film to the local library branch and the somewhat youngish lady there did not know what a microfiche is. Another lady diirected me to the main branch where I was able to use one of their readers that also allowed me to directly copy the pages.

The Service Honda online microfiche is really helpful especially to cross reference parts used on different models. Unfortunately you can not order online nor can you tell if the part is still available from Honda. You must call them. Good people 30% off retail, and relatively cheap shipping.

Service honda has pretty good prices.  There are a number of sites out there that allow you to access microfiches. . . . . www.powersportspro.com doesn't require any weird log in procedure and you can order online.  I don't know how updated their parts "availability status" is.  Any of these online fiches can be useful to look at exploded views of the various assemblies.  Undoing "helpful" modifications made by POs is easier if you know what Honda intended in the first place!
