« on: September 14, 2008, 09:36:43 AM »
I just came across this last night when researching rims. I thought others might be interested.

I don't see a phone number to call so they can come get me, on a dark night in a remote area, and put me up in a hotel for free, when they go flat.

I have seen a few versions for ducati motorcycles, at $3k per set.  I'll just buy tubes.   You can get a whole ass load of tubes for 3k.

BMW has used it on a factory level for years...as has at least one wirewheel company for cars..

BMW does recommend getting a dealer to redo if you change rims.

Basically boils down to getting your rims prepped, should have a deep bulge or dimple...then using a sealant that will stay on there..

some of that is also the design of the rim itself.  I think they just use a rim strip with a sealer on the spoked section but the bead of the rim is a different design that helps retain the bead.

i have the factory alloy wheels on my RD400 which are a tube type.  since they do not have an inner lip to retain the bead you have to run tubes (which is a total pain in the ass)

If I could fit a set of nice tubeless radials on my bike with these I would do it (if I  wasn't so  broke).
Frankly a flat on a bias ply and a radial are two very differeent creatures.
Bias ply flop around when flat. Radials are so stiff it just seems like the tire pressure is low.
