ah, me again. :P

just picked up an '81 cb750c w/22k, nice shape but non-running.  PO couldn't get it to start this spring, then moved to CA.  parents wanted it out of their garage, so i got it for $350.  cold compression readings were 160,145,145,160; plugs seemed ok; drained old gas from carb bowls and tank; new battery and zoom!  all was well with the charging system, so off i went for a 30mile shakedown run.

a very strong engine all the way to 8k, shifts easily, very good brakes, all electrics work, handling seems more for cruiser than sport, but i'll improve that a bit.  halogen headlight is a nice touch, and the system should accept a 100w h4.

am wondering, for those of you w/a DOHC, is there an active site around?  am sure i'm gonna need help sometime this winter.  bike came w/a huge factory manual, but still..............

many thanks,
bobp

Not being a 750 guy, did the CB750 come out in 81 with double overhead cams?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

No, 1979 was the first year of the DOHC.

Was common in the day that any 750/900 left for more than 5 days needed the carbs draining before they would run, possibly the lower volatile gas, who knows.

Also very earl 750 had a recall on an oil pathway plate to reduce pressure on the sprocket seal as they could "blow" out and the crankcases have to be split to replace it. I have the bulletin somewhere if you wnt to PM me for the details

You were lucky it ran good after setting,I have a 81K that was a pain to get the carbs cleaned but after I did it runs very good and strong.
