Not losing my side covers
« on: September 13, 2008, 08:46:48 AM »
Here's what I've done to prevent the loss of my side covers.  On the right cover I use a hairpin cotter pin and on the left side, just a regular cotter pin (long & thin).  You just have to drill small holes in the forward tab of each cover to allow the pins to pass through.  Holes should be located toward the end of the tab so they're exposed when the covers are snapped in place.  See my pictures.

While they do not look completely stock, this is exactly why I like my meier covers! They screw on! In order for those to fall off, all three screws have to come out and that is not likely to happen.

I pin mine (74 750) with hairpins and washers.  I do the left cover on the bottom nub with a pin going fwd/aft.  The right one is pinned in the top forward with a pin going up/down.  I just have to remember to pull the pin before tugging at the cover.

That s very clever and would be completely effective.

damn.  That's a good idea.  Just wish I'd seen it before my cover blew off 2 weeks ago.

Anyone in the DC-Baltimore region that sees a yellow cover by the side of the road-  it's mine.

It is an awesome Idea and if I still had the stock covers, I would do it. Maybe if I ever get repros,I will do it.

Here's what I did with some really thin vinyl covered aircraft cable.  This way, when the tab breaks off they're still mine.
