Indy MotoGP
« on: September 15, 2008, 09:02:03 AM »
I just got back last night from a weekend at the MotoGP in Indianapolis.  What an amazing experience!  Both the Speedway and City were awesome with regards to hosting the race and the bikers that attended.

I still can't believe that I was able to park my motorcycle on the back straight of the Indy 500 track.  I also couldn't believe the weather, it was brutal but that just added to the experience.  Here in Indiana about 90% of the bikes on the road are Harleys so it was very refreshing to see a huge plethora of mostly non-Harley bikes at the race.  Downtown Indy was a bit different at night.  The city blocked off 4 blocks just for motorcycle parking.  Anyone and everyone that owned a motorcycle was there, it was awesome!

I saw a few SOHC4's, anyone here attend the festivities?  How far did people travel to see the race?  I traveled about 80 miles which was actually my longest trip on my 500f so far.

Hi ProudGecko,

Yep, I was there too and rode up from Birmingham, Alabama on my 74.  It was an awesome experience.  Also attended the Indy Mile Flat Track event at the fairgrounds Saturday night and got to see good old Chris Carr win the mile in a very exciting finish!

Was pulling for Nicky on Sunday, but Rossi was definitely deserving of the win.  Nicky got lucky to save second place - one more lap before the red flag and he would have had to settle for third the way his bike was sliding around..

I just got back home an hour ago after leaving Indianapolis this morning at 6:00 am eastern.  Took a little detour through Chattanooga - wow U.S. 27 going from somewhere in South Kentucky / North Tennessee to Chattanooga is an incredible road.  I highly recommend it if you are in the area.

The wind toppled a few Ducks at Indy. This would not make a fellow happy to see after the race.

The racing was great and the camping was muddy.  I stayed at the Fairgrounds and avoided the party noise at the Indy track. The racing was fantanstic! I traveled from north of Milwaukee.........On my return Chicago was basically closed because of flooding.  I took a few streets from US 30 on the south side and found my way to the 130th street on-ramp at I-94.  I was the only vehicle for miles.  The races were great and the HONDA rep told me he wants to see my HRC replica CR750 when its finished.  The flat track race featured Kenny Roberts, Jay Springsteen, Chris Carr, and Nicky Hayden for live track-side interviews.  Next year the Indy GP will be run on the last weekend of August along with the flat-track races.

Chris Carr must get to a lot of events!

2 guys from France we were having a few beers with (at Bonneville), had flown over for the Springfield Mile. They got to meet Chris there and he spent time chatting with them, they asked where he was going next and it was Bonneville!! So they said they would see him there.. and they did!.. and again he took the time to speak with them... sounds like a really personable guy..

September, he was in Springfield, Bonneville, & Indy.. wonder if he made it out to Miller for the Vintage GP?

I was going to introduce the French guys to Goldammer but when they finally found us in the pits, he was out on the bike..
