I have ridden one.  Almost bought it, but it made a noise in the crankcase.  If you find one, beware.  A carb overhaul involves dropping the back half of the motor down to remove the carbs.

Here's a pic of a custom CBX.
Single sided swingarm--Spondon frame--perimeter brakes.
Big bucks, I'd say.

There is a quite active owners group. And considering only out for 3 years or so, I've seen quite a few, had friends who owned them etc.

It was a bike that when asked of Honda "Why?" the only answer was "Because we can".

The first year it was power king. Then by the third year it had factory fairing and hard bags in pearl white. Those I like the best. Kawasaki had a six as well. "Me too".

But I'd rather have a built CB750.

The CBX I sold 2 years ago was the only bike I ever regretted selling.  The one in the picture followed me home last week.  It is just as sweet as I had remembered.  Nothing, absolutely NOTHING sounds like a CBX.  '79's and '80's usually sell between $5,000 and $10,000.  The '81's and '82's usually are a couple of thousand less.

There was one on the local CL a while back an hour south of me in Tucson for 3000ish grand ASKING price. I regret not jumping on it. One day I shall own one!

Beautiful bikes! Horrendous carbs! I want one!

Ridden em
serviced em
rebuilt em

HORRENDOUS running/servicing cost---check out the cost of a rocker box gasket and the seals on the bolts, plus you need a day to check/adjust the shims (and spare shims) also needs riding at least weekly or the carbs will need stripping and cleaning more often than annualy. Make sure the cam chains (yes plural) dont rattle as they are a kin nightmare to repace

Having said all that I'd still give one garrage room and live with the crap handling
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Squirley...that one has a pretty nifty Ducati conversion done to the tail section and rear swingarm...looks odd on an old honda though lol.

On a side note, Benelli(sp?) made a inline 6 motorcycle as well that I saw once in person at a local shop. Was ratty looking but sounded fan-freaken-tastic. Can't imagine getting parts for that thing...

Whenever I hear CBX, I think of the Benelli.  Looks like a 500-4 engine, with 2 extra cylinders to make it into a 750.  Love the 6 into 6 mufflers.

The reason my 550s previous owner sold it was because he'd bought a mint '81 and his wife was operating a 'one in, one out' policy :-\   Oh well, his loss, my gain 8)

I worked with a guy about ten years ago that rode his '79 CBX daily.

Even more impressive was the Benneli Sei that I found at a local used bike parts place about four years ago.  I had never heard of one and was surprised that it predated the CBX by a few years.
