Cb750 Color Questions
« on: September 15, 2005, 12:50:42 PM »
Anybody have a modern paint code for 1975 cb750 K5 Planet Blue Metallic? Looking to just buy the paint off the shelf and spray.

Also same request for Sunrise Orange Flake.

BTW how is this finish applied? with a heavy metallic base and a candy orange or is the flake in the orange stage itself?

2005 I don;t think there was a cobra, you mean 2004. The 2005 mustang blue is calld windveil blue and is too light and not metallic enough. I forget the color of the 1998 ford windstar but I remember it having too mcuh of a silver tint and also not being metallic enough. Typically 70's bike colors don't translate to cars because they were either candies (like most of the 70's kawasakis) or hevay flake. I spent a ton of time looking through paint chips trying to match my tank and so far nothing has come close. There was a guy selling premixed honda paint that was supposed to be failry accurate but I forget who it was.

This might be the guy you are thinking of, seems to get high marks from customers (I've no experience personally)

Three pack Candy paint is what it was also yet again THERE AINT NO STANDARD CODE FOR HONDA PAINTS!
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

the problem with the honda color codes from the 70s is that they don't translate into modern dupont codes or other manufacturer codes, unless you have a paint supplier with books back to the 60's.

Check with Color-Rite.  They seem to be able to duplicate some of the old Honda colors.

color rite seems (at least on their website) to be able to go only to 1986, not any earlier.

Somebody has had to have repainted their bikes these two colors, Whom ever you are what did you do?

Talk to Don (mentioned in previous post). He has kits that several SOHC'ers (myself not included) have used to good effect.
