Gas 1 Gallon 93 premium about $4 bucks
Bread anywhere from $1 to around $7 depending on how fancy your taste buds are.
Milk about $4-5 a gallon
Eggs $2-3 per dozen
#1 McD's is around $5 if i remember right.
Cigs vary by brand $1-5 per pack

Can't help on the paint without knowing brand, number of cans, etc. Never had anything polished or hard chromed, had quite a bit show chromed though.

I usually start around $25 an hour for machining (manual lathe, manual mill, CNC lathe or mill) depending on what you want done, less for friends alot more if you are a PITA.

I am moving to South Africa. Here in NY a gallon of gas is about $3.80-90.
Pack of 20 Smokes is $6.10 best price. If you sneak across the border tnearby the State of Pennsylvania,  it would be $4.00.
Forget about chroming since there are few chromers around.
If you want to spray your own frame and swingarm you could do it for $20.00 with can spray paint.
For painting a tank it could be several hundred for customm or a hundred for one color.

Each State is different and they tax certain items differently. In some States the cost of labor and rent is much cheaper, so the prices can be lower. So, you will find widely varying prices stated here.  The US is not one thing.

I am moving to South Africa.

Me too.

Petrol here in Ontario is about $1.29/Litre and was about $1.39/litre a few days ago.

The last time I got a Bic Mac meal (#1) it was about $8-9 w/tax.

Pretty much everything on you list ttr is much more expensive here in Canada.

Why anybody would want to move to a 3rd world country like SA just defeats me. 30-40% unemployment, highest murder rate in the world (sorry, Columbia doesn't have up to date data on this one), rampant corruption, incompetent government, car-jackings are a daily occurence, you live as prisoners in your own home behind 12 foot walls topped with razorwire.

rhos is correct apart from the 12 foot walls, more like 6 foot.
Saw a sky news doc the other day which stated that SA is the most dangerous country in the world.....second only to a war zone.!! 50 murders a day etc etc etc.
Although, it's not all bad.
There are some very clever people down here and quite a few inventions have come out of the country, these days though it is getting worse.
Unfortunatly I can't get a green card for the states.

Unleaded Regular gas $1.43/litre cdn. = $1.32us/litre  which I think works out to a bit over $5.00us/gallon.

All I do know is when our dollar was nearly equal it would cost me $77.00cdn to fill up out mini van here in Winnipeg and down in Minnesota it was only about $52.00cdn when I traveled to Duluth.

pack of 25 cigs I think are 10-12 bucks

 Bloody 6 Pack o beer nearly $10

 4/litres of 1%Milk $4.00-$5.45

Hi Bob, health care is free (mostly) I had a triple by-pass and a valve replaced in my heart in 2001 and it didn't cost me a penny but my first symptoms of angina were about 1985. You figure it out.
95 octane petrol is about £1.15 a litre ($2.27), a loaf of sliced bread is about the same and taxes in general are crippling anybody on less than about $75,000 a year.
My wife and I manage on a third of that because we don't smoke or drink or gamble, and because we worked hard to pay off our mortgage when we were younger.
By the way, this democratic government is putting up the annual raod tax on our 2002 1.6 litre saloon car to $800 from next year. They don't want any ordinary folk to drive a car but to use public transport at about $1 a mile.
This is not meant as a complaining message as we live fairly well but if we were young again we would move to America where hard work is rewarded.
