spedo & tach disassrmbly
« on: September 19, 2008, 04:09:11 AM »
Again I have searched for notes on a subject, nothing useful comes up...

Trying to disassemble the speedo & tack to sand & paint the bezel, nothing obvious works, anyone know the secret?

I have seen a couple of these queries and I think the problem rest with the new header and the "two" search buttons. The large and highly visible Search Frame that is really a Google search. But if you use the small blue button forth one over from the left in the main control bar it will perform a search in the forum database... Maybe we should remove the Google search?

There is a little metal ring that holds the 2 halves of the gauge together. The trick is to un-crimp the back side of the ring so it can be slid off and the gauge halves separated. Once the ring is removed then everything is easy to get at and refurbish.

The real trick is to use patience and time to remove the ring. Unless you have a replacement or intend to use something else in it's place after refurbishment.

What I was getting at in a indirect way is that there are many discussions about this topic if you use the correct search feature.

I cut it off, and now it's back, glued. Works very well, cut is at the bottom ,so you don't see it, and this way the ring stays in a nice shape. It's difficult to "uncrimp" it and keep it presentable....

Thanks everyone, the most helpful hint was to quit using the Google!

Now I think I can find a way to "tin can" them open without damaging them too severely.

I will post if I discover any thing new.
