I just have to share!
« on: September 18, 2008, 09:12:55 PM »
I know, cars are experience robbing cocoons I can agree with that. But sometimes they are necessary (especially in snow country ;)) but parts are expensive, especially on imports! I have a 1988 Audi, and let me tell you... Parts are horrible and break the bank, I can hardly afford basic repairs on it (ball joints and the like) but I really like the car.

Anyway, the point is - I found a great parts source for import vehicles. They are BBB accredited with a satisfactory rating. They were also in the top 500 businesses for growth... Something like 200%. Their prices are excellent, I saved about $300 (give or take) on parts. I just had to share, it was too good a find!

Hey, somewhere on this board, there's some guy with a slightly modified AUDI engine available.  Plus, a HONDA mechanic helped out!  Sounds like a real bargain  ;D

I have an A4 and it takes a screwdriver to replace the right headlight bulb. The air intake scoop is placed above the headlight. It is a 10 minutes job, but I don't know whether the mechanic charges fraction of an hour. Audi mechanics here are about 60-70 euro/hour -about $80-$90-

The only original parts I buy are specifics such as a broken door handle and the like. For the rest, I buy Bosch filters, Mahle oil filters etc -in fact, most of the parts are made by external manufacturers and rebadged as Audi. You can get prices up to 50% cheaper. Brake pads, discs, you name it.

Obviously, over here it is not an "exotic" car so it is easier to buy parts at the places similar to your Autozone without receiving startled looks.

A 1988 Audi  ;D ........I've got a 1987 VW GTI  :D

I use to work at a shop where we repaired mostly VW/Audi/Porsche and other imports. The hardest job to do that I remember on those Audi's is replacing the blower motor.......which is just ahead of the windshield  >:(

Thanks for the link. We use to get parts from these places but I'm not sure they sell retail: http://www.altrom.com/, http://www.autocamping.ca/index.cfm

Excellent! As far as cars go I really like European. Audi/VW more specifically, but I have no issue with Saabs, BMW

Update on service:
I've had very fast responses from them so far. One of the parts I ordered ended up not actually being in stock like their website stated and they couldn't find any other source for it. Emailed me within 24 hours about the change. This is definitely an excellent source. And speaking of door handles they have the door handles for my car at a very nice price. My doors use a trigger setup and if snow and/or ice gets behind it the pivot point is changed and breaks the handle and it's not the first time it will be replaced - PO had broken the handle before me.
