contact breaker points/condenders wiring
« on: September 30, 2008, 05:41:59 PM »
I disassembled the contact breakers to flatten the points, and now I don't know where the spade connectors go.  I don't want to connect the spades incorrectly and break stuff.  Here is how I have it right now.
The whole assembly:

2-3 side:

1-4 side:

Currently, the pair of spades on each side are electrically connected, and insulated from ground.  I think that's right, but please advise.

Looks good to me, just be certain that the wires to the coils go to the proper contacts since they're color coded, it should be straight forward.  Nice pics by the way!

Thanks.  I'm using a canon sd1000 little pocket camera using digital macro mode for close ups.  This is in low light, too.

Anyway, as you can see, the red spacers are insulating the spades from the grounded point holder thing, and that's what I want to make sure is correct.

Yeah, your theory of keeping the wires off the grounded parts is the important thing.

+1 if the points leads weren't insulated from ground, than the circuit would always be 'on' instead of allowing the point contacts to open and close the circuit.  You've got it right in the pics.

What you have will work provided the blue and yellow wires go to their correct set of points - good to check. However, I would prefer to see both spades on the same side together with the contact arm of the points. Having them on opposite sides means that there are two contact points with the risk of one side making good contact and the other not. Pat
