Fawkin electrical!
« on: September 15, 2008, 05:15:09 PM »
Alright, I had everything apart up front to rebuild my gauges/put on a new left hand control. Hook everything back up, and now the only thing I have are front markers and oil pressure light. No headlight, no tail light/rear markers.
Fuses are good, but I'm not getting any power to them. I'm positive everything is hooked up like it was. Where should I be looking. Bad ground somewhere?

Which bike?

Best to get a wiring diagram, pick one system and work it til it works.  Chances are once you fix the first thing, the rest will fall in place.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Yes, all wires were the same. I have to pick up some fuses today, blew a main fuse while trying to trace the power trail to the headlight  >:(

I hope you didn't nick a wire while pulling it through the handlebars...this can happen right at the center exit or also at the entry, by the switch, which will ground the power wires and make fuses blow...

Well managed not to blow a fuse today, found the first source of the problem. Ignition switch. I got power in, but no power coming out for the headlight switch/gauges

With some careful work, you can actually disassemble, polish the contacts, and reassemble that switch, to get many more years out of it. The contacts pit, causing loss of power, after enough years of use.

Or, you can just buy a new one...  ::)
