I was happy to read that you're on the mend. Although your recovery will be hard work it will pay off. Hat's off to all the guys on here, the support you all show for each other is incredible!

Yeah, the support here has been pretty unbelievable.

I'm mending really, really fast. I always have from other injuries, but I thought that maybe because this was so serious, it might take a long time.
I'm still weak from not really moving at all for close to 2 months, but I'm getting more strength and stamina back, and building muscles to help compensate for permanent damage done to other muscles, bones and nerves. A brisk (3 mph) 1 mile walk everyday, stretching, other excercises, and most importantly, pretending Im not screwed up (using muscles that dont want to be used) is helping with my recovery.

I hope your ingesting plenty of vitamins. calcium at least brother, sorry those thing were beat into me as a child, thats why I have a huge supply of vitamins in the bottom shelf of my fridge. That's great that you are out pushing yourself, that's what makes for a speedy recovery.

When I was 24, I was in an accident and remember how tough it was to recover. Now I'm 36 and I wouldn't want to do it again with these older bones. Good on you for keeping at it. Pain meds are your friend.

Wow Mark good on ya for pushing ti so hard. I would be hard pressed to do the brisk 1 mile walk right now and I have never even broken my pinky finger (I'm just lazy!).

Keep it up and you'll be as good as new soon!

Thanks again guys.
Saw my new physical therapist for the first time today.
Got some electric shock therapy

Pretty mild stuff, just to get some muscles moving with a tens unit.
Started some new excercises for my arm.
This guy thinks the nerve damage may be in a different place than my last phys therapy guy did. He thinks that only part of the top of the nerve may be damaged, not the lower nerves actually severed.
If so, it should grow back more easily.

Aren't tens units awesome? X has one at home, and it's been kind of a godsend for her lower back. good to hear the new news from the new pt!

6 months and he might just miss the rainy months.

i hear we're expecting an early and harsh winter, but an early spring. we'll see, i suppose... maybe mark's return to PDX will bring good weather?

Mark......all I can say is I'm glad you are still with us and whatever you decide to do as far as riding or not.....I for one totally understand.....my little brother bought it into a signpost in 85'.........we all here know you are a biker at heart and you will get through your healing and do the right thing for yourself.

Yeah, tens units are a trip. My phys rehab guy mostly put the contacts on my muscles that dont have working nerves, though. I couldnt even feel the one on my lower back shoulder.
I'm sore as hell today after doing the excercises he's having me do, so I know it's working

You and yours should come by Marcuses garage on wednesday nigh after I get back, loe to meet you, and we always like having more bikes there to help work on or help others work on theirs.

Paul, I hope to be back faster than 6 months. Thanks to genetics (amd possibly my awesome attitude

), I am very resiliant and am healing very quickly.
I don't mind the rain. First year I moved to Portland, there were over 200 days of rain that year, some 190 consecutive or something like that.

As far as riding when I get back, since I lack some important movement in my right arm, riding is probably not a good idea. Also, because of the damage to my head, the docors said I cant have ANY more damage to it for at least a year. Could cause major brain damage if I do, so I need to take things easy.

Again, all of you are freakin awesome.

Sounds good to me. My scars are pretty unimpressive from this wreck. Two 3" longs scars on my spine from surgery, and a hole and scar on my stomach from the feeding tube. My gear did a great job of keeping me from getting cut/scraped/hambergerized.

If anyone wants to know how well those rain pants with kevlar and balistic pads work, they work freakin awesome.
