I tell you what I did, just left the gasoline in there, put in a big a$$ chain closed it up and shook it till my arms were ready to fall off. It scraped all the rust off. I just continue to put 2 stroke oil in it every so often, it's good for keeping that rust gone, plus those tank coating systems only last for so long. I'm not a big fan.

Just get the POR15 motorcycle gas tank re-lining kit. Includes the tank cleaner, prep, and sealer...All for about 50 bucks or less depending on where you get it. Throw some ball bearings/nuts or something in with the cleaner...just make sure you count how many and get the same number back out lol.

King, How careful do you have to be about getting a drop on the tank paint? Thanks Dan

Milkstone Remover, they use it for cleaning lines at dairies, heard it works great (Via the H.A.M.B ;) )  Vinegar is supposed to work also, just not sure how well.

actually the POR kit is not a lining like Kreem or other kits. It's a true conversion coating. It chemically bonds to the metal and cannot come off...even if you tried to sand blast it, if that were possible lol. Try getting some on the outside of a bare metal tank, then get it off...you'll have to go at it with a grinder.

I've looked into the electrolysis... and i have all that i need to do it ..but wasn't sure about that ..Ill try that one on some small parts first ...I've just gotten all of the 1/4 size nuts out of the tank ...man I shook the tank like if i had a flash back of my kid being bad and the tank was my kid :o lol..I would really never do that ..but I just count to 3 or 20...so I put the solution in my tank and ill tell you how that comes out once i wash all that out with the hose.

What is this about nuts and chains in the tank?
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I would 100% try to get all the water out.  Not doing so is probably asking for trouble.

Go down to your nearest gas station with a nail and go to the air hose and depress the thing so it because a ghetto air tip and just blow the tank out man, that'll make the hair dryer much more effective. You want to get the bigger drops out first and that'll do it.
