remove the gas tank

can someone tell me how to get the tank off, i know to disconnect it from the petcock, it it screwed down or anything?

Don't know what you have, but most (all?) have a rubber retainer at the end, just infront of the seat.  Lift the seat up, pull this off the rear tab of the tank and then slide the entire tank off towards the rear of the bike.  Don't forget to unhook any hoses.

thanks i got it off earlier today without a problem. so what is the difference between 550k and 550f i have a 550 four is that the f?

so i went to clean my petcock and i didnt find a sock on it? where would it be or could it just not have had one on it?

thats not rust on the screen its something else bc i scratch it and it runs white. i tried carb cleaner on it and it didnt budge

the white stuff on the oval ring is actually like a rubber substance, so do i need to get all that stuff in the bottom of the bowl out? does it matter that it is all scratched up like that?

ok thank you for all the help. i will try and scrap that stuff out of the bottom of the bowl, the sides of the bowl have be butchers so actual metal debris was in there. if i get all the metal debris out and that staff in the bottom out will it still be good?

ok sounds good. the petcock was in horrible shape so maybe that will help my problem a lot.

ok sounds good. that is gonna be the project for tomorrow. any auto parts store will have the spark plugs i need huh?
