Thanks much for the write up, Moto. Every now and then I fail to trip a light, and I've got some old hard drives lying around. Actually, I'll have to see what condition the magnets are in. I never toss a hard drive without destroying the disk, and my preferred method is to cut the entire HDD in half with a hand grinder. ;-)

Ha ha, good on you for practicing good data security.  Good news is that the magnets are down near the end of the drive, not in the middle, so assuming you cut across the short dimension you'll be ok.
