Topic: Front End Lowering kit for 1972 CB750K ?

Hello ,

Looking to lower the front end of my bike alittle more.
This is mainly for looks , handling and ride don't factor into this bike as much as others , the RoadKing is for that 
Want to get the bike as low as possibile , while still being able to ride it.

I allready pushed the triple trees down about 1'' over the fork legs , to lower the bike , and it is starting to look good. My question is , does a company sell a lower leg spring lowering kit for these bikes ? I know they sell them for most American V-Twin cycles , but I am not as aware of the Asian market as I am am the U.S.A stuff.Usually comes with a different spring , and a spacer.

The legs need to be re-built anyways , and I thought this would be a good time to lower the front , while it was all apart anyways...

Disc brake CB450 forks are the same stlyle but shorter than the 750. I have a pair of NOS ones here in uK but shipping would be expensive!

I asume a company such as progressive would sell a front end lowering kit for the CB's , but I cant seem to find anything.

Since you don;t care too much about handling anyway why not just cut the spring? You can make a new spacer out of pvc (ask the honda chopper guys how to do it they do it all the time for extended forks using stock springs), or since you work in a v-twin shop mill them out of aluminum. I know progressive and works can do custom springs but that will get expensive.

On a semirelated note, had anyone converted their cb750 forks to take cartirdge emulators?

You probably dont have a spacer in there to shorten though.

I have heard of some cutting the top of the spring off and adding it to the rebound spring below with a washer in between the two to keep them from threading together instead of the brass spacer this guy talks about.

HAHNDA---> Thanks for all the good info. After reading that thread , It looks like we are gonna lower the front 2'' , with cutting the stock spacer , and following the rest of the steps.

That , along with the trees being pushed down a 1 1/2 should give the front end a killer stance.

Doing  this without lowering the rear will reduce your trail some. Not sure it would be enough to be unsafe but its something to keep in mind.

ProTeal55... let us know how your CB turns out after the front suspension modification.  I am interested in lowering my front end as well.  So, you should be sitting lower by 3.5"?

Just for the record , the rear of my bike as been lowered by about 1'' - 1 1/2''
I picked up some shorter shocks when I first picked up the bike from WWW.CRC2ONLINECATALOG.COM for cheap.
Over the long Chicago winter we are prob. gonna lower it another inch in the rear. Prob. do a bolt on lowering kit , to go with the shorter shocks , to get the rear down around a 2'' drop...

When all is said and done with the front end project , we should be about 3.5'' lower than a stock 1972 CB750K.
Right now , as the bike sits , it is about 1'' lower , and I could def. feel the difference in ride , but once again is not a main
concern for me. I drove a Rigid for two years , so this bike is like a Lazy-e-Boy to me allready.

beware of reartire clearance problems if ya keep lowering it in the rear!!
especially if ya put a fat gal on back(lol)
I rode a rigid for 12 years before the project I have now.(clearance just went over my head)12 inch shocks with 3 inch stretch on swingarm ,so when my 100lb wife got on back...rub  rub
had to go back to the drawing board

Don't know if this is related to anything, but every CB750 that I've seen that has slid the forks up an inch or so thru the triple clamps have had a bend in them just below the lower clamp. Probably has to do with the top bolt working inside the upper tube in the upper tree as a slug to strengthen the whole works. Why it bends under the lower clamp, I don't know. All I know is I've seen three different bikes set up this way, and all three had the same bend.

Ya--> Hardtails are a blast.......

The CB will never have a rear passenger, The RoadKing is the bike for when I wanna take my Girl for a ride.
The Honda is a around town , to and from , get me to work bike. I figure I can lower the rear atleast another inch , before I start having bottom-out issues. Would like to do a extended swingarm to give the bike a much lower , longer look , but I am sure that won't happen for awhile.

As far as " The Bend" goes , I have never heard of that. My bike has been lowered for about a month or so, and their is no bend of what/how you speak.

Just keep an eye on it. Like I said, I'm 3 for 3 seeing bent forks, but they could have been the only three that that ever happened to.
