I'm going to go crazy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: September 21, 2008, 01:45:46 PM »
I have a 1978 Cb550 K. It's had 3 previous owners so has been messed around.Manuals for the 78 550K are non existent, you will only find addendums in the back of the 350-550 4 Clymers. What the heck are the carburetor stock jet sizes, none of mine seem to be anywhere near what I'm reading in what little info I can find....so many parts have been jury rigged or replaced with parts from other models...it's making it very frustrating with the limited info on this orphan :(

Just go into a Honda bike dealership and have them look up the part number and discription. Bring your engine number and frame number. They'll be able to take care of you. Even if they can't get the part at least you'll know.

I am no expert on 550's but I do know you can get expert advice on this forum. Please start by taking some digital photos of your carbs and download. Also calmly explain the symptoms of the problems you are having. Just take it one step at a time and you will get it sorted out. Your original question is impossible to answer. Dan

I have the same bike. It's basically the same as the other 550's, just the carbs are different.
Do a search here for the number that is stamped on your carb (PD####).

If I remember correctly the stock sizes are 90 and 49...correct me if I'm wrong .

Scunny, you beat me to it. Mike Nixon has the same info on his sight, as well as a lot of other good stuff.

If you search around, there are a couple 550 manuals that can be downloaded for free.

12.5 for the floats! Whoa..... my Clymers tells me it's 21mm. No I'm not dyslexic, that's what it says.

Yup,Clymers does say 21mm and 14.5mm for the floats,but....they don't make it perfectly clear which year these settings are for, after much digging and questioning I've found that the pre 1977 cb550k's are set at 21mm,the 1977 cb550k's are 14.5mm and the 1978 cb550k's floats are set at 12.5mm It's been really fun....not!
