Went for a Meal with Mark (dusterdude) earlier, he's a real nice guy.

Picking van up in morning and off to Dinnwiddie tomorrow afternoon for a test sesion tomorrow night.

Staying at Marks Friday night, then off to Piedmont Saturday morning for more testing over the eighth mile with racing in the afternoon and evening.

Hotel Saturday night and return home Sunday providing Saturday isn't rained off forcing us to race Sunday.

Everything went tits upards this morning when I went to pick up the rental van from enterprise car hire.
Armed with my British/international drivers licence, my passport to prove who I am, my Visa card with more than enough behind it to buy the van outright.
Sorry sir but you need a credit card not a debit card, I replied, I'll pay you cash up front then.
Sorry sir but it's company policy that you have to have a credit card....Bollocks >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
So we are going to risk the journey in Marks old pick up 8) 8) 8) 8)
The other let down is, it's not stopped raining all day and I doubt they will run on a wet track if it don't dry up.
watch this space for more cock ups ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

They have given Sunday as a rain date so if it's raining Saturday they will race Sunday.
My bigest problem is how I get from up here inVirginia to south MS without a vehicle and letting people down that I was going to visit on route not to mention Maxton.

Hey Sam, hate to hear you've had a run in with the Credit Card police.

But, looks like rain will end before tomorrow and Sunday is to be clear.

Sam, there is a lack of trust among the rental companies in regard to debit cards. With a credit card they can get an approval which may include your credit limit. With a debit card they can only tap what is in your bank account. Some cards can be either or.

Well guys, what can I say, The Assassin assassinated himself

Before I tell you all the Gorey details, I would like to thank Mark (dusterdude) For the use of his CBR600 Street drag bike which ran without fault all day.
Also his lovely wife Lynn who stepped up to the mark with the loan of her truck to get us to Piedmont and back after I encountered problems renting a van.
Apart from having some fun ( I didn't expect to be taking the money away), the object of the exercise was to see if I could get Marks bike into the 7s over the 8th mile.
This was a time I have never achieved before due to never having a bike big or powerfull enough to actually do it, this was going to test not only the bike but myself as well.
My previous best over the 8th was on my VFR400R with a time of 8.3 and a best from the little RS175 record bike of 8.7 seconds.
Mark, new to drag racing but very enthusiastic had managed I think an 8.2 with the bike so the time had come to do battle with the bike and Piedmonts strip.
The first run was a little bit of a mess up, not sure if it was me of the air gear change that didn't want to work but after that I decided to change gear myself.
After a few runs trying to find the best launch technique I was just inside of Marks time with low 8s and some very fast reaction times to the lights.
First gear was a little low for me and I found the bike very lively off the line so I tried launching in second. It didn't help so I reverted back to using first with a little less throttle.
My last practice run was the one that put the smiles on our faces, a reaction time of .025, a terminal speed of 96.09mph and the 7, we had done it with 7.917.
Rocking-M Robert and his good lady wife Tracy had made their way down from Roanoke to witness the fun and to pick up the Ducati spares that I brought over to repair the dear battered Duc.
The fun started when I got knocked out in the first round due to a very poor reaction time. I was very disappointed not just for me but for the rest of the crew as well.
We did have the opportunity to buy back in for $15 so took it and went on to live again and higher the dial in time from 7.9 to 8.25 in case I fluffed the start again.
It never happened I left the line against a white Busa and left him for dead. I found out after from Mark that he had been jumping up and down screaming for me to back it off as I had that much of a lead. Yeh, that's right, I'd shot myself in the foot                broke out with a 8.112.

Sorry guys,  Sam, assassinated

He ran below his dial-In time, which is a breakout and automatic loss..

..unless...

The other rider breaks out too, then closest to their dial-in wins..

I prefer to dial right near my quickest time, and run full out..

Some rider that can do a 8.0 everytime will dial in at 8.2, but be prepared to hit the brakes if need be ???.. remember first there will win, if no red light or breakout.. The guys I just mentioned are called sandbaggers..

So it is not as clear cut as you may initially think...

Another thing that can srew people up if they dont fully understand is in heads up racing, ewhen the slower ET wins. Winning the race is a combo of your reaction time PLUS your ET in heads up racing..

Sam, whats the transportation situation looking like? if a motorcycle doesnt have to be transported i'd be more than happy to run you around if you like?  the saturn isnt pretty but it runs great and gets good mileage, and if necessary i have good a/c in it too.

Thanks Fuzzy, after this fiasco with the need to have a credit card, I deceided to miss out going to maxton and fly down to MS to see the rest of my relatives.

Even doing this was not simple, seems you can't get an e ticket unless you have a US or Canadian credit card.

Unlike renting the van where the driver had to be the person with the credit card, my nephew was able to pay for me after several phone calls to the airline.

It's not only Maxton I'll be missing out on as I was hoping to call on several board members on route down to MS.

Needless to say I am really miffed off about all this, I'll contact all concerned by PM and point them to this post.
