Tappet covers
« on: September 25, 2008, 05:00:27 PM »
1972 CB750.  The tappet covers were stuck. I ended up having to use vise grips on some of them to get them off. These got really mangled.  I have new ones now to replace the damaged ones, plus new gaskets for all of them.

Can I do something to keep them from getting stuck again? Grease?

I think, as dumb as it sounds, don't over tighten them that much. They don't need to be very tight to do their job.

What does Honda say they should be at? I am curious to know.

Put a round of teflon tape (the kind plumbers use) on the threads.  They won't leak and they shouldn't seize.

"them" being the screws, I presume? If so I would use a nice dab of copper grease on the thread of each one.
