Not Exactly Humor
« on: September 24, 2008, 09:16:27 AM »
Okay, don't get nasty now!  ::)

The wife passed this on to me.  Then I thought "since she earns most of the cash, is she warning me of new policy?"

I HAVE TO PASS A URINE TEST FOR MY JOB... SO I AGREE 100%. Like a lot of
folks in this state, I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and
the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that
paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no
problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to
people who don' t have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a
urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for
them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on
their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone
sitting on their A**, doing drugs, while I work. . ... . Can you imagine how
much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a
public assistance check? Pass this along if you agree or simply delete if
you don't. Hope you all will pass it along, though . .. . Something has to
change in this country -- and soon!

(I'll add here that I sympathize with people who are genuinely struggling with their addictions and trying to get clean.  So I would allow some sort of proviso for proof of participation in AA or NA or some such.  Also, the logistics of this testing would be an expensive nightmare!  But I appreciate the general logic...)

I'd vote for a bill like this.  If someone needs help, let's help them.  If someone is just sponging, let's fix it so they can't.  If they make an effort to fix themselves, then let's enable them to do so.

Random Urine tests all around!!!

Urine tests for sure. Though, they would all get together, and some big shot lawyer wanting publicitiy would take on their case pro-bono and probably win on the grounds that it is "unconstitutional". Which realistically it isn't because we the people in all our freaking infinate wisdom let the Patriot Act go through....

Any way back on subject, they would probably win any how their argument being that it's a minority of people that do drugs and not the majority, which is true, but never the less it is depressing to know I am paying for some dead beat to get high and neglect their kid.

So medic, are you telling me you're jealous of all those free loading druggies who get to use when you can't because you've got a job that requires random drug testing?

Funny, you never struck me as the "I wish I could do crack...  damn this drug test!" type  ;D

I'd actually advocate the reverse:  drug tests for welfare recipients, but not for workers.  If you're busting your azz and doing a good job, making money, taking care of yourself, then if you want a toke on the side, feel free to it, as long as you can still work properly.  If you're going to sponge off society, then be warned that drugs cost money, and if you're getting high on the taxpayers' dime(bag) you're going to have to find other means of satisfaction.

i agree, or there should at least be a time limit for the benifits.  It does not take 2-3 years to find a job.  they may not pay large hourly wages, but it is money that you earn.  as well some sort of service should be performed for the money that they recieve.  If the absolutely can not work, those are the ones that should have the benifits extended to them.

The cost of a urine test in my area is about $25.00.  I have a problem with a test in that, unless you are a transportation worker, or in a job where lives are in your hands, it shouldn't make a difference if you smoke a joint or 2 on the weekends.  I had to pass a pre-employment drug test to sell motorcycle parts!  And what's to stop them from looking at the DNA?  And finding out what diseases you may be prone to?  "We can't hire you because your DNA says that you could contract edbikeri's disease, and we couldn't afford to insure an a$$hat like you".

As for the welfare issue, welfare reform has happened.  It was in the news.  Also, try to keep in mind that it is human nature to only remember the negative.  So the next time you hear a story about someone abusing the system, try to think of the very, very many who don't.  Nothing is perfect in this world, but we are working on it.  Government is no different.  The last 2 weeks should prove that.

I am surprised that you guys weren't aware of the human nature only remembering the negative thing.  How many times have you been at a party and let it slip that you ride a bike?  Then you have to hear about the friend or relative who was killed or maimed, or about those crazies who ride up the side of the road while the rest of us are stuck in traffic, or do other stoopid stuff.  Yes occasionally you get the "I ride too" guy, but there's only 3% of this countries population that rides.

Sorry.  I'll get off my soapbox now.

It's that damn political thread.  I get so worked up.

Dont think they would really notice...or care really...But then again the city i live in has several "assisted living" Complexes where the residents make 100% of their income via such payments just to give an example how things like that are up here in the north.

SO, come to the UK where you can rip off everyone in your reach and they can't touch you because it infringes your "HUMAN RIGHTS and CIVIL LIBERTIES" This is another of the wonders of this lousy government we've had for the last decade or so.

Furthermore, I remember there was a TV program here in the uk called "Wife Swap" a few years ago, anyway to cut a long story it transpired that one of the lady participants was on benefits and "earning" in excess of £35,000!! That's just under $70,000!!
The worst part was that the lady (if I can call her that, 'cos she was a right slag) was haranguing her counterpart due to the fact that she, on benefits, had a higher income than the other one who had worked all her adult life!! Now that's just not right.

Well, I have a theory:

Welfare statists actually thrive on throngs of welfare and drug addicted voters to get elected.

It used to be that way, but because people got high on the job they had to start putting directional labels on mines...

Also a lot of old school machinists couldn't keep away from that happy grass, they're okay right?

Also because there was no testing they let this man in the Military....

So I dunno, I agree partially but in a lot of cases drug tests are good for everyone...
