Confirmed:Idle Air screw vibrates out at high speed!?
« on: August 28, 2008, 05:28:14 AM »
So I had suspected this was the case at one point but knew that I had leaky filters, unadjusted carbs,etc...

Last night I rode 60 miles back and forth to school at steady 70-80mph speeds and as I exited the highway and pulled in the clutch, the bike immediately went to die. My hand went to the screw and it was backed out almost completely! :o

I know this wasn't the case when I had gotten on the road 30 minutes prior. At the next light, I reset my idle to 1500 and went on to class. On the way home, I pulled the clutch and the idle was fine.

Anyone had this issue?

Do you have the correct spring?

Do you have the correct spring?

Never changed it, so not sure-spring that came with the bike.

The spring is there only to keep the air screw from turning on it's own. It is supposed to load the threads at the point you set it. If this spring is pushing on the screw as it should the screw can't move on its own. Your problem somehow relates to the spring. Take out both the air screw and spring and take a picture and post. After rereading your post are we sure we are talking about the idle air screw or the idle setting screw. You have 4 idle air screws and 1 idle setting screw. Dan

Sorry-idle setting. It has a spring as well, correct?

HA-freakin'-HA! There's no SPRING-just the screw going into the assembly! :o Looking at the Clymers, I see the spring now in the exploded pics.

Anyone have a spare they could part with? :-\

I'm sure you've gotten one by now, but if not, I have extra stuff from a keyster carb kit you can have.
