Quite the trip,I am back up and running and on the hunt for another machine for thrills and chills up here in the great white north.I am still addicted to cb750's and I want to update to the 21'st century on a newer bike as well, any ideas as to a cheap simple modern bike?

Hmm, cheap, simple and modern all seem exclusive of each other!! I have heard that the Suzuki sv650 is a very good modern bike, but in the $3k+ range depending on the year, which doesn't qualify as cheap to my sensibility.

One bike that is inexpensive for what it is is the Suzuki gsxr 1100 water cooled('93-98) Plenty of power, brakes and handling, in the $2-3k range, however I'm not sure it qualifies as a simple bike. That being said, it's not a whole lot different to a SOHC 4 except it's DOHC. ;D
Good luck!

you'll never go wrong with one of the modern Triumphs (except maybe the rocketIII) theyre dead nuts reliable and all good runners. when i worked for trump dealers i never saw one come in for anything but routine maintenance and the occasional reflash on the ecm after exhaust mods.

The SV650 is a great bike.  for a modern bike 3k is pretty cheap and they last forever, carve the road very well and have just the right amount of power.  not too much, but no dog either.
