Any suitable replacement/subsitution for this rubber orofice?
« on: September 23, 2008, 05:01:05 PM »

Judging from the way oil is leaking out the final drive shaft, I'm guessing I need a new one of these. I tried to order one from servicehonda, but they are discontinued. Any ideas for a substitution or replacement? Just let 'er leak? Am I barking up the wrong tree? I did try a couple of searches, but I wasn't exactly sure what to search for; sorry if this has been covered.

Thanks again.

Are you sure the rubber piece is worn out?  I would take the auto oiler adjuster set screw all the way in once you've plugged/by-passed the auto oiler function (there's a good thread about this procedure on here somewhere).  The procedure involves fishing a decent sized o-ring through the auto oiler hole, and flushing it up with an exacto knife.  Anyway, that's what I ended up doing and it worked great.  No more oily mess. :)

Just remember, once you bypass the auto oiler, you're gonna need to keep a good eye on how lubricated your chain is.  I always check the chain on my  pre ride checks, and use special chain lube (aerosol can) every other ride or so).  I've got a standard chain so that's why I lube so frequently, if you've got an o-ring chain, I guess you don't need to do it as often

If you don't mind the crappy exchange rate, CMNSL has the most comprehensive Honda site that I have run across.  Small bits are relatively easier to handle but they're kind cashy on the bigger ticket items.

I think they're out of the Netherlands?  Maybe, I can't remember for sure.  Give'em a look anyway.

I found the thread that I had mentioned in my earlier post.  It's actually in the tips and tricks section now.  Check it out, it's at http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=10817.0
Works quite well.  Just need to make sure the o-ring is girthy enough.

Awesome. I'm changing the sprockets and chain before my trip, so I will do that little trick. Thanks again for all of your help.
