Recommend glue for seat cover
« on: September 25, 2008, 05:49:42 AM »
I have an 8" tear along the seam of my seat, currently patched with duct tape. Im looking for a cheap temporary fix until I hack the seat for my cafe build in the winter. What glue would you recommend to hold the vinyl?

Thanks,

I`d just go for a contact cement. Applied right should last plenty long enough.
If its only a temporary thing use a spray adhesive used for scrapbooking or such

Kinda a bummer, but the seat cover is in excellent shape otherwise.

I'll try the cement and I suppose a piece of duct tape on the underside wouldnt hurt either.

If you can take the cover off, or somehow get to the underside, find a piece of reinforced vinyl fabric at the local fabric place that will cover the rip an inch or so all the way around.  I would recommend a cement that is designed for shoes, called "Shoe Goo".  Fantastic stuff, and it remains flexible.  Align the cover so that the "seam" is tight and hold it in place with some electrical tape from the outside.  Spread the cement on the patch and place it where it needs to go.  Takes overnight to dry, and you can get it at Menard's and the like.

my seat cover was ripped on the seam, tried gluing it, worked for awhile but then came apart. went out and bought a piece of black vinyl with a fabric backing, not to thick, it has to stretch some, $11 for a square yard (enough to do 2 seats), and it was marine grade vinyl. i recovered my seat and it turned out very nice, looks much better than the torn seat. the only place on the seat thats tricky is the very back , i have 2 folds showing. if you know somebody that can sew two seams you could get rid of the folds altogether. i thought the front would have folds too, but when you pull it tight you can get rid of them. don't pull the front to tight tho or you will have a slight gap between the seat and the tank, i learned that the hard way.
