Rear Shock Bushings on Swing Arm Removal

How do you remove the (shock) rubber bushings on the swing arm?
Pound'em out?

Yep, a 3/8" or so long steel rod, coming from the oposite side. It could help if you bevel the flat end at a slight angle so it stays in place when you hammer it.

Don't beat them out, you may damage the arm.  :o
Get a 2.5" long 1/4-20 bolt (or some allthread rod), 2 large washers and a nut, and a small and large 3/8" drive socket. Put the large socket on the INSIDE of the arm: this is the receiving socket. The small one goes on the outside of the arm. Grease the bolt, and use a couple of wrenches or wrench and ratchet, and press it out, to the inside. Install from the inside, too, and grease well when you do. Be careful when installing to NOT press on the rubber: use the washer(s) to make sure you're pressing on the shell of the new bushing.

I have a post around here somewhere that describes the whole sequence, picture, tools and all. Take a search around for it. It was a 750 arm, but all SOHC4 arms are similar.

I tried that, and got one out. Then the C-clamp broke on the second.  :o  So, I bought some allthread rod. I decided to go to 1/4-28 for extra torque, later, and it's easier. I cut the rod into 6" pieces, now I have 6 tools!

When I rebuild these swingarms, some riders have me replace these along the way, too.

I ended up using the bolt and socket, and used a impact wrench on low torque. I dont think they came out clean. I dont have the new ones yet so I am not sure what they look like new and hole. Does any have a pic for reference?
