1978 CB 750K8 KEIHIN Carb Rebuild.
« on: September 24, 2008, 07:12:28 PM »
I hope someone might be able to help me source some parts.  I am attempting to reassemble the carbs now that I am done cleaning them, but need to replace some parts which looked bad.  I took a picture of the parts and I hope that some one can help me find them.  I tried measuring them with my digital calipers and this is what i got:

1) Rubber Ring or shaft Seal?  ID= 10.42mm, OD= 13.56mm

2) Felt Washers.  There are two different sizes.
small: ID= 5.53mm, OD= 9.35mm
large: ID= 10.37mm, OD= 14.31mm

I tried the local Honda dealer and some carb shops but no one could help me.  Also, the #4 carb has the following info: Keihin Japan, PD, 42AAQA7 on it.

Thank you,

JC

Does anyone have some extras from any junk carbs that they would like to sell?

Wow i find that pretty amazing maybe you should try another person behind the counter i go out of my way to avoid the younger parts people they have zero interest in vintage stuff.

most seals and whatnot are still available new.  try using the servicehonda.com (or any other) fiche system to get the part numbers and see if they're available.

I have tried searching Honda direct, bike bandit, and bike barn but those washers and seals are not listed.  They are probably included as part of the whole carburetor body, but I find it hard to believe that there are no direct replacements or retrofitted washers available.

All I have been able to find are o-rings and some other type of rubber seals from a local hardware store, but they are very tight and I do not think that they will last very long especially since the shaft rotates.

Here is what I found, I thought about greasing the the lip of the seal in order for the shaft to move easily but I figure the heat and the movement would kill them quickly.

By the looks of them, I'm assuming those parts are from the throttle linkage. Am I correct in this? If so, according to the parts fiche, the only way to get them would be to purchase certain components. Hardly seems worth the expense. For my k8, I just re-installed the original parts. From the photo, it looks as though they are in decent shape. Any reason (other than being thorough) that you would replace them? Anyway, I attached the parts fiche FYI. Hope this helps...(if you're set on replacing them, try David Silver Spares for parts...or ebay for a used set of like carbs).

Yes, the parts in the first picture were the best ones out of the whole bunch.  The rubber shaft seals are all split at the seams, and forget about the rest of the felt washers.

I thought about the rebuild kit that is offered through www.siriusconinc.com # KH-1157N, but when I zoomed in I just saw o-rings.  Has anyone here ever used o-rings in this area and if so what happened?

Thank you,
