Clubmans were mounted than removed :(
« on: September 16, 2005, 04:29:07 PM »
Well, I put on my clubmans today and within the same hour took them off.  I thought I'd like them after seeing them on other 550's but they just didn't flow with bike at all.  I'm used to riding sport bikes and this was even more extreme than the R6 setup.  I only paid 17 bucks for them so its not a big deal.  I didn't think I'd be that draped over the tank as much as I was with them.

Chris- In racing applications, they're great. With normal riding- they suck. You should have come to me first and saved $17. ::)

Love em!
Have had just 4 bikes over the years, I installed downs on all of them.

Not sure what motivated me the 1st time..............
1st one was a 69 Yamaha at 16 years old, yah sure I looked the fool, but man I love that looking (down on the road) feeling. The road, just the road ;D

I have never had a sore back, people always ask about that, but I have never had that problem with them at all.
At 100K the wind seems to hold you up, below that speed there is definitely more weight on your arms, but I like the responsive feeling on steering.

P.S. I Don't like SAND or GRAVEL very much, but hey, this isn't a trail bike.

STOCK BARS SUCK! ........"not really but boy, some people must have  missed there cupcake dessert  tonight-X

I just got mine from www.cb750cafe.com and I love them. I spent the better part of last night running my wires through the bars. As soon as my hands have feeling again, I'm going to take it out for a spin. It's going to be a back breaker, but it looks sooo sweet. I have an R6 too and the yamy is a pleasure cruiser compared to the F1's current riding position.

Has anyone with the clubman's moved their rearsets? I think that's the next project.

That's not a dumb question.  I have no idea why they are called that and I'm just as curious (been curious for a long time now).   ;D

Moving the rear sets is the next project for me. I don't have clubmans, though, I found a set of clip-ons. I'm used to riding sports bikes, too, but found the riding position was a bit more uncomfortable that I thought it would be. My Back keeps getting soar, even on short rides. BUT, I found that when I pull my feet back to the rear pegs my back feels better (my crotch doesn't, but that's another issue). I figure with new rear sets in place, that should really settle the subject out.

The name comes from racing at the tracks, you were either a rookie , a clubman ( belonging to a racing club ) or a pro. Also in car racing there is the Clubman division which usually are scaled down versions of Formula 1 style cars in either 1600cc Class A or 1300cc Class B.

The Clubman story is interesting. I've already shared it with a neighbor checking my progress. Another question: do those little cafe-style fairings improve handling noticeably? I've seen 'em on ebay for $49.99. A one-piece job in black with a small smoked shield that snuggles over the headlight (according to the supplier).

I have one of those on my K2.  They work quite well but the sides near where the windshield meets the body of the fairing needs to be braced.  This is the best pic I have of the braces right now.  They extend up to the sides of the fairing and use the last windshield screw on each side to bolt it up.  I'm not sure what if anything the fairing does for handling.  To improve my handling I use clubmans and have shocks off a 79+ K.

You're welcome.  BTW, I didn't put the HONDA emblem on it nor did I do the turn signals either.  PO did them both.

Maybe I'll give them another shot.  But the superbike bars on now just work so damn good.

I had a small fairing to start, with,  but after my reno job did not put it back on.
They do not help with high speed handing. I found that without it my vision of the road and my gauges was better.

Before

After

I think it just looks cleaner, more old school.

Personally I rotate between three differnt bar bends, Clubmans, clip-ons, and superbike bars. Without rearsets, clubmans are damn unconfortable. You really have to have you feet further back to enjoy the drop bar feel. Clip-ons are the same way. On the upside, when I switched my 75cb750 from superbike to clip-ons I noticed I was riding the bike harder than before, taking turns with more lean angle and more aggressivly. Since the bike was my commuter and did not have rearsets I switched back after a month to the superbike bar. However both of my F's, which have dunstall rearsets, have either clubmans or clipons and feel awsome.

I hvae a fairing on a cb750F and it really doesn;t do much for the wind but makes the bike look super cool.

Cutting 3/4" off the bottom of the screen helps the looks I thought they look kind of top-heavy as they are.
