I'm thinking about this rustoleum thing....weather is starting to go to crap though.. and today i went to a autobody and paint shop today just to see how much they would spray my tank and covers, IF i could find some. hey said around 500$ :o. is that crazy or is that how much it would really cost me ? so this hole rustoleum stuff i may do ..but did you guys use a gun or the can ... I guess some just used a brush ...what would be best ?

When you get it done take it over and show em and say it cost you 35 bucks and a sixpack that you drank while you worked on it ;D

i know this is off topic and maybe i should post this on another thread but i just started up the bike and when it idles and runs i notice this clicking/rattling noise coming from the engine, it gets faster and less noticeable as the rpms go up and it gets more distinct as it idles or the rpms go down. what could this be and is it a major problem?

ok another question specifically for mystic 1 prolly. on their website, the company that you gave me, they have right and left side covers for a 500f. will these fit a 550f?

That, I do not know.  Never worked on a 550 or 500 personally.  TwoTired is, I think, the resident expert on those models.

no i just recently bought the bike and was trying to get it in running order. my mechanical knowledge is only what i have read on here so pretty much none. i plan on taking it to get a full tune up since i dont know how to do that. when i do take it to get a full tune up what should i tell the guy to do? i dont have the tools needed to do a full tune up i believe.

ok. i was looking over a manual and it doesnt look like this can abe done with the engine on the frame if i am correct. also i'm not sure if i feel comfortable opening up the engine, i would be worried i would make more problems. lets say i just take it to a mechanic and say i want a full tune up and i want to make sure this this and this is done, what all would i tell him i want done?

Nope that set should do ok you just need to get a feeler gauge it's just an art to retightening the tappets so they stay adjusted.

You don't have to take the engine out to adjust the cam chain and tappets but if you feel comfortable taking it to mechanic just tell him a full tune up.

i dont really want to pay anyone to do it but i also want it done right, and with needing the carbs synched prolly and the timing checked and all that i think it would just be bet getting a full tune up. is there a full tune up article or guide out there somewhere? a link would be nice, i will reconsider it if it is detailed enough

also what could cause it to smoke sometimes, not a black smoke more of a greyish smoke. when i ran it for a little bit a while ago it smoked after a while and when i stopped it there was smoke coming out of the end of the exhaust like something was burning on the tip.

Well it seems you have a bite of oil getting past the rings at start up but it goes away after the engines warms ( not a big deal) up but you need to check the plugs and see what color they are and make sure your carbs are dialed in.

That's fine but the sooner you jump into this stuff yourself the sooner you save money and get the satisfaction of doing the work yourself not to mention tool collection ( we talked about that already)  ;D.  but if your eager to get her road worthy i don't blame you.
