Too Much On My Plate
« on: October 01, 2008, 09:59:32 AM »

You know, this thing with my Dad has really been stressful to me to deal with on top of my own family life (which is pretty full and includes the goings on with our Daughter (who is "Special Needs"), James (young man who lives with us who is also "Special Needs" and we work with him) and Joey ( another "Special Needs" young man who we work with also) along wit yet another young man named Joe (who is also "Special Needs", who we work with on a part time basis). Then, to top it all off, I belong to at least 25 different sites. To be honest, I didn't realize there were THAT many! :o I'm going to do myself a favor and cut back considerably. Of course, the Ol' SOHC4 will be my "Mainstay". ;) There is no way that I can do the other any justice with myself being spread so thin. At any rate, I will be downsizing somewhat. All things go like thay appear to be doing, I'm going to be spending a pretty fair amount of time with my Dad too (and I'm not about to cut back on THAT! ;) ). Makes me wonder how many others are loaded like (with the site membership) that or worse?  What say ye? ???

I WAS. I pared them all down and pared down the projects.

Sites will always be around people will not.

Good for you Bill.

You are so right about that Tim. And I have developed a hell of a lot of friends, right here too! Now I just have to decide which few to keep (besides this place) and I've been slowly thinning out the "Projects". I hope to be able to do some "Project" work with my Dad (even if the main thing he provides is companionship, info and comments).  ;)

Bill...my hat is off to you and my heart is out to you.  People like you that devote so much time to the special needs individuals out there are few and far between.  Without you special helpers where would these special needs people be...I mean, what kind of life would they have.  So a heart-felt thank you Bill for the work you do and your devotion to these people.
Regarding cutting back sites, I have discontinued my membership and visiting the Gold Wing (GWRRA) site and have maintained this will be my favorite site.  I just love the vintage bikes and getting them back on the road.  It is just a great feeling of accomplishment to restore a bike and ride it.  Time and time again you see new guys here rave about how helpful all the members are.  Just no other site like it...

Bill
This site will be around for a long time, and so will many others...
You need to live your life, and enjoy it with those you love.
So do just that, be with your kids (and i mean all of them not just your natural born ones) and your dad. They deserve your attention more than we do.
Your wife might even enjoy a little more attention ;)
But please keep us posted on your dads situation, i have come to feel part of it all, and SWMBO always asks if there is an update too.
Be kind to yourself mate, theres only one bill that needs to be shared with a lot of others.....

Geez, Bill.  I don't have anywhere near the work in my life that you do, and I can't keep up with 5 forums.  You rock, dude!  One thing that we do share, is that this place is "the one".  I have tried to stay in another forum devoted to Astro vans, but I haven't been in any others in weeks.

Just typing this message is making me sleepy.

Thank you all for the kind words, I finally realized that with our own Daughter needing "Special Care", maybe I should be passing on some of that "Special Care" to others. My wife has been doing it longer, but I finally started about 10yrs ago (of course, since our Daughter is nearly 31yrs old, we've been doing it that long with her)

As far as the other sites go, I've gotten to where I wasn't doing them any justice. Oh, I started out trying to hit them all as frequently as I could, bit I have really slacked up for a while now and I've got more than I can handle, so I'm cutting back considerably. Problem is, I love motorcycles and have for as long as I can remember. Might say that it's in my blood. ;)

I WILL be here though, as long as I can operate a pc keyboard.

...will say a little prayer for ya bill...  :)

Thank you for that, I need all I can get. ;)

You all have a Great Day Now,  Bill :) ;)

Bill people are always more important than websites. I am almost never on at night as I am with my family. You do what you must and take care of what important first. You are the man bill and I wish you all the help god can give you.

Bill, you are so right about family and I'm sure your being pulled in so many directions at once that you don't know what to do next sometimes. You have a good head on your shoulders and will do what you must. With that said don't forget that you have a family that is praying for you and your family right here, so if you need to vent or reach out you can always come here for support and help. SOHC4 is much more than just a bike forum.

Take care and be safe,

eldar, you are so right about the family thing. ;) There are times though, that I really need to unwind and, I've got to tell you that THIS place is where I do my "unwinding". To me, this place is more than just a website. I promise you, as God is my witness, I do quite a bit for my family (because of them, and I'm not complaining, I don't have much progress on much of anything for me. :) Sometimes, I just seem to get so overloaded, I have to release things somewhere. And that's when I'm here, letting it go. You all help me in so many ways, it's not even funny. It's kinda ironic, I found the old SOHC4 accidentally and I've gotten so much more than I could ever give. ;)

                            Thanks to all,   Bill

Yeah Mike, you are absolutely right about the family thing and like I was telling eldar, this place is like one great big family (Fantastic at that) and I value knowing you all (even though we've never met in person and probably never will) and feel like I have known you all for years. I try not to vent too much, but it doesn't always work that way, as can be told by the size of the thread about my Dad. Getting anxious about his progress by the way, he starts therapy Monday to get him up and walking as best he can. 8)

                                Thanks again,  Bill ;)

Well, thank you for THAT tramp. :) I just try to do the way I was taught by my Parents, my Sister and my Grandparents. Sometimes, the things we are taught just don't seem to sink in (and I guess that is what happened with David). My wife thinks that David is jealous of me and, if so, I'm not sure why.

I'd like some time for myself, just not sure how I'm gonna get it. After what my Dad has been through, I feel like I need to try to, at least, touch base with him 2 or 3 times a day. Then there's the everyday happenings in my immediate family. I'm needing to go back down and put the final (for now) touches on the yard, make sure that nothings been messed with at the house. Also need to get time to check out that security system that Will (burmashave) sent me and get that thing set up. Also have to get copies made of the documents that we have created (POA, Health Care POA, Deeds, Titles, etc and put the originals in the Safe Deposit Box at the Bank. I also want to get my Mom's 14 foot flat bottom boat out of the boat house there, get it up here and go through it (cleaning it up and get it back up in shape. You see, the insurance company gave my Mom the boat when she retired and my Dad fixed it up like a bassboat (flooting, pedestal seats, foot controlled trolling motor and an out board motor). He did all that work back in 1985, when they both retired, put it in the water, moved it around into the boat house, hoisted it up out of the water and that is where it has sat for all this time. ::) I could not believe that they had never used it. Now, my Mom is gone and my Dad really isn't interested in going out in it. He has told me to go ahead and use it. I will have to get another boar trailer, Dad says that David kept coming and borrowing it and one day, it didn't come back and a cgo trailer with a ramp tailgate on it showed up and my Dad latched onto it. Now,THAT trailer has his name and mine on the title. ;)

Anyway, I don't know when I will actually get much time just for me. If I can get that boat in shape, I sure can relax and unwind, just going out in a boat and fishing (doesn't really mater if I catch anything, just being out there, with no distractions, quiet..... Ah, I can already get the feel of that solitude. 8) ;)

I hear what you are saying, but (in my case) that's easier said than done. You see,
I'm the main one who's able to do very much. my wife helps all she can but she has trouble with her blood sugar levels, allergies and she has Asthma as well. I also have Asthma and when we have trouble with that, it leaves you pretty much lifeless. Fortunately, my Asthma is usually pretty much under control. I do what I can, when I can but it's not very often though.

::)  Should have made myself clear abut what I was talking about, huh Terry? ;D  Bet you had your mouth all set for the traditional Turkey, dressing and such. :) Sorry to get you all hyped up and not deliver that meal there guy. :( Sorry to say I was talking about all the BS I've had to deal with mainly since the 27th of July (that's when Dad and I had to really step it up and start getting things taken care of).

Things go right though (and I don't know why they won't), we are going to be having all kinds of things to be "Thankful" for. ;) No one I've talked to, believes that it will go any other way.
