The main reason i was looking at using the VF parts is because my bike only has a single front disk...did the 550F get dual front disks? Because if so i would rather use factory parts instead to keep the spoke wheel look. Otherwise i wouldn't mind finding some comstars or some other mag wheels that will fit this bike.

no, but the fork legs were made so that a second disk could be easily fitted. the kit could apparently be bought at the parts counter back then. do a search for the mod on here and you'll find all the info you need. here's mine:

Nice front end Paul, but I bet all that polishing keeps you busy ;D

My calipers are painted because I'm lazy ::)

Outlaw, if you're planning on following Paul's example (and you should it works), try swapping the forks side to side too, moving the calipers to the rear of the legs.
It doesn't make much difference to the actual braking efficiency, but the bike tends to dive a lot less under braking :)

Im def looking at going that route....Def like the idea of reversing the fork legs to mount the calipers behind them instead. Im assuming i would just swap the entire fork from one side to the other aka the right fork on the left side and vise versa?

That's all I did, took about half an hour start to finish.

You have to keep the wheel the right way round though, so that the speedo drive stays on the right, otherwise it'll go backwards ;D

Paul..not nit picking but......that gap on the lower fork cap should face the rear. ;) Then again I don't have my glasses on so I might not be seeing things correctly.

Could leave it like that for about 4 thousand kms and i would have a zeroed out odometer lol

I was wondering about boring the 550 to fit the 750 pistons.  Every thing I've read here says it can be done but the cylinder walls get thin.  I would like to know to if these thin walls would lead to decreased engine life or would it not matter if done right.

Yes the sleeve walls are thinner than stockers (at about 0.085") but it isn't a problem.
