K1 vs K3-6 prices
« on: October 04, 2008, 04:43:47 PM »
I've always owned K3-K5 750s but I'm looking at a nicley restored K1, it seems pricey compared to what I'm used to. Are the K1s more rare and do they generally run more than the later models? Thanks.

The only way I would touch a 69, -72 would be if it were a full new restoration to new project.   Seems perty darn pricey to do that.  The bikes may have a really high retail but the effort that must go into those must be extreme and costly.  Gotta do it this way and that way and the nuts/bolts have to be in the right position and bla bla bla.  Buying new parts or digging for new parts or making things that are right that you would not dream of on a daily driver and bla bla bla.

I personally commend those that that take that kind of project on.  I started that with my XVZ12DN and man is that a tough project.  Does it look good, sure, but do you ride it after that, prolly not. I do mine but it starts to take fun out of it because you end up cleaning more than riding.

if you are looking at mods or riding, I personally would do it on a 73 and later.

But then I am a newbie here so what would I know, lol.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

For me 72 is about the cut off.....After that they changed away from the spirit of the 69.

Just my opinion

Yeah the wide stripe models just look..newer..

My fave is the 71..easier to live with carbs, but still had painted ears and nice guages.. sorta like the Candy garnet brown cuz my buddy had one and you dont see them everyday.. the sidecover emblems look really nice with that color..

The Candy colors were the best (tho I disagree with the brown). After 72 the colors remind me of a 70's vintage kitchen paint scheme.  :P

Yep.  Earlier the better with the old Hondas.

Most places advise you to "buy the latest model you can afford" when looking at used cars and bikes because of the improvements made to the models as the run goes on.  Honda is the exact opposite, and the early models are more desirable for a given bike.  At least with the vintage bikes.  New ones do improve as time goes on, for the most part.

It's a nice bike bike but too much money I think, even for Canada. It has 9000 original kilos, European handlebars, looks like a new bike except for some battery acid stains on one exhaust, very slight fading on the gauges, swingarm is a bit loose, and tires are getting worn, otherwise it's mint. I see nice 750s going for $5000 and good professional restorations going for around $8000 here where I am, the owner will take $10,000 for this K1 I think.

I don't have the space, tools, time or know how to restore a bike and don't mind paying a fair price for a nice bike but no more. I paid $5000 each for my 73 and 74 which I consider reasonable but I'm uncertain about the earlier models like a 71 hence my question.

I have my restored ruby red KO and had the chance to pick up another KO, but one 4-cable carb bike is enough for me.  My next project is going to be a K1 in the gold.  Been keeping my eyes open.  There is a nice K1 original over by Cape Cod for $6,500 and it looks as nice as if not better than that $10,000 one and it is gold.  If interested factoryphil on this board lives near the bike and you can contact him.  The guy was not getting it sold on craigslist so he was going to try eBay soon.  Anyway, yes I like the 69 - 73.  But I have to admit I also like the blue 75 too.  I have a friend that I am trying to talk into selling me his 73 brown that has been sitting in his garage for 5 years.  I will keep working on him.  It is a 1 owner bike and would only need OEM exhaust to be original.
