Man, sometimes I wonder...
« on: October 10, 2008, 12:30:26 PM »
It's beautiful here in Michigan today, 65 and sunny, so I went out for lunch today on the bike. As Im cruising along at 35 mph, I thought I'd whack the throttle a little, but the bike just bogged and didnt want to go. Confused, I give it more gas, and the same result happened...

"Hey Dork!"

"Yes?"

"You're in fifth gear."

"Oh."

So I drop it down a couple gears and the bike takes off like a rocket.

....yeah, and that was me talking to myself. Dont ya love when you do dumb stuff?

I started up the bike the other day and it had a really rough idle.

"Man, I just started this yesterday and it worked fine...?"

Closed Petcock: "Maybe you need some fuel?"

I stalled out in an intersection twice and couldn't figure out why she wouldn't go. Wasn't until the next light I realized I was in second gear the entire time  :o  Also started to lean left to go around a turn and heard a horrible metal hitting concrete noise and bounced right back up to center (luckily wasn't going very fast). Scared me half to death, before I realized I had forgotten to put my kickstand up  :-[

after 18+ years of riding i've realized that those moments continue to happen.   :-[

the 18+ years have helped in the reactions that those moments produce.   :)

For the first time ever, I forgot that I switched to reserve on the way to work this morning  ::)

The nice thing is that i ran out of gas in front of a cycle repair shop i've never been to and a scholarly gentleman (ie. mechanic) came out to say hello with some fuel that got me to a gas station.  :D

my latest doh! moment was last weekend.  long story, but the highlight:

putting my husky te610e to bed for the winter, i turned the petcock to "reserve" instead of "off", then took off the fuel line.:P

access is not great so by the time i got the flowing line back on, had about a quart of fuel soaking into the finished basement floor. :P

my very patient wife, calls down:  "uh, hey bob!  the house smells like gas!"

me:  "sorry, husky seems to have split a gas line" 8)

Geez you guys... I don't think I ever did anything dumb on my CB! Bet y'all feel really stupid confessing to the world that bikes are just too much for you to handle; the Koreans make nifty scooters, think about it. ;)

OK, here's mine; fired her up, pulled up the kick stand, put her in gear and rode off. As I leaned into a left bend I heard a faint scrape sound but it was barely noticeable and fleeting... but then it was followed in due course by a constant and louder scraaaaape!

You guessed it, I didn't pull the kick stand all the way as it had apparently stuck half way up. And yes God made sure there were witnesses. Maybe Jehovah Witnesses? ::) Not only embarrassing but dangerous too.

I've got the classic and we've all done it eh, come on fess up. ;D
Showing bike off to visitors, explained how I had so cleverly tuned it to a fine point, starts first time everytime right?
Na na na...........no start, scratch head, visitors leave and I remember bike has a kill switch which I had decided to flick on as an added security measure.....duh! ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

When I first started riding I had a KZ440. One day it wouldn't run, even thought I knew there was gas in the tank. I could hear it sloshing.  I pushed my bike a couple miles across town to a guy that I knew who also had one, so I figured he knew more than I.  After explaining the problem he looked the bike over and switched the petcock to reserve.  Yes it started.

Haven't had any dumbass moments on the CB other than forgetting the kickstand once or twice.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

Since Barber is coming up, and you just reminded me.  Last year while I was there, my buddy and I decided to take a spin around the place.  First left hand curve I hear the scraaape.  I stop and flip it up, my buddy stops and flips his up too.  Dual dunces.

You've all forgotten to put your stands up.  I forgot to put mine down.  That was when I learned that I could indeed pick up the bike once it had fallen almost all the way down.  Funny thing is, this took place in my gargage with only the door open to the road.  What's the first thing that I do after getting it back into place?  Look around to see if anyone was watching!

That one rates up there with running out of gas, putting it in reserve and trying to start it up without the clutch pulled in.  Of course the bike lurches foward (this time in the middle of the road WITH lots of people around).  Again I demonstrate my lightening quick ability to lift the bike, start it, and ride off into the sunset with only a couple of scrapes on the blinkers and severe bruising to my ego.
